i suggested this in another thread: wood, cp & walker to texas for young. cedeno could then start at ss & young at second. i seem to remember hearing that the rangers owner coveted wood since he is from texas.

Wow! Not a chance. Trading TWO guys who's values are at their lowest along with another guy who is very productive given his salary.

With all of these suggestions for Cedeno to be penciled in as a starter, does anyone have any projections for him for a full season? What if he has an offensive season that looks like Patterson's past season? Can the Cubs win with that kind of everyday production? Who is his back up if that's the best he can do?

Because we don't know whether he can be a plus production guy or a minus production guy, I don't think it's a good idea to pencil him in as a starter on a team that is in desperate need to improve offensively.

The 2006 ZiP projections for the CUBS were just released the other day......

Name P AVG OBP SLG G AB R H 2B 3B HR RBI BB K SB CS
Cedeno ss .287 .332 .412 113 345 46 99 15 2 8 40 20 63 13 4

That's much better than Neifi.

That would exceed my expectations. I would be very happy with that.

Texas is interested in CPatt, so names like Soriano, Young, Teixera and Blalock come up? Pipe dream. The only way CPatt gets any of those guys is if guys like Zambrano or Prior are thrown in. CPatt has almost no trade value now. I'd trade him, but let's be realistic here. He's no more than a throw in if the trade is to net any player of substance.

Jerome Williams and Ronny Cedeno for Alfonso Soriano. That's the rumor I heard at least, though just Dallas talk radio banter, third-hand. Still, wouldn't surprise me given Hendry's known pecadilloes--speed and power. Frankly, he'd be a pretty darn good #6 hitter if we get Giles or Dunn for cleanup. His run production is more important than his K totals and low OBP when hitting lower in a lineup.

An interesting twist when I heard this: Soriano is another Dominican. Maybe Hendry is consciously trying to get these guys together in an atmosphere they're comfortable in? Aramis, Neifi and Furcal are all Dominican. So is Felix Pie. Curious.

Exactly - he's a great addition if he's hitting lower in the lineup. That would be awesome.

I think Cedano and Williams for Soriano is a great idea. Given the fact that we ADD OTHER PEOPLE. He alone is not the answer. Soriano makes 7.5 million (according to ESPN player profile) and honestly don't know what his contract is like. I also agree he is not a lead off hitter, and should not be traded for to be a lead off hitter.

So my question...do the Cubs have enough money to make something like this happen...

1B-Lee

2B-Soriano*makes Walker expendable*

SS-???

3B-Ramirez

LF-Murton

CF-???

RF-???

By making this trade, it leave 3 holes...SS,CF,RF. IMO we still don't have the leadoff hitter we need/want.

Could we still get Pierre, how about Furcal and Dunn/Giles. Does Patterson get a shot if we can land another OF.

I guess it takes the questions about Cedano playing out of the question, but still leaves many holes to fill.

A line up of:

1. ???

2. Murton

3. Lee

4. ???

5. Ramirez

6. Soriano

7. Barrett

8. ???

I'm not sure this is a great deal. We spend another $7.5 million and we still don't have a SS, CF, RF, or lead off man. Soriano is a good player, but let's fill some holes first before we try to upgrade a position that's filled.

We also traded one of our better trade chips for a position the team is not in need.

If you trade Williams, fill a hole. With Walker, Perez, Cedeno and Hairston all able to play 2b, let's get a CF, RF or a SS before we trade for another 2b.
