Even with the new ball park it looks like our payroll will remain at 92m.

So they lied when they said they were going to have more money to "play with" this year. That's such BS. They made so much freaking money with all the "farewell to Busch" garbage. What was our gate? Something obscene probably. This better not be true.

It will just make it sound like a bigger deal when they "stretch" to sign a big name and break the 95+ line on payroll. If they can't sign a big name it gives them a fallback.

If the right player(s) are there, they'll go after them, but they probably won't get into a bidding war.

I don't know where those salary figures came from, but they don't look close to being accurate.

Of course Dewitt is going to say that the budget is tight. Do you honestly think it would make good business sense to say "we've got all kinds of money to spend..... we're just waiting for players to come & get it!".???

Come on, people. It's business.

Let's not pretend that $92 mil is a "slap in the face". The Cards will easily be in the top 1/3 in all of baseball from a payroll standpoint, despite being bottom 1/3 in market size.

DeWitt has even publicly admitted that the market size for STL has little bearing. The fact is while they don't make as much for TV or Radio, they are making a KILLING in gate, merch, and corporate sponsorships.

Red Sox
