Big George looked like a star in the making in the early 60's. Sadly it was not to be. One day though George squared up against another rising star, a star that would continue to rise as George's waned, and managed to be the first player ever to do what?

Another piece of interesting George Altman trivia: He played in 3 different professional baseball leagues--he started out playing 3 months with the Kansas City Monarchs in the Negro League, played with several major league teams including the Cubs, and finished his career playing baseball in Japan for 7 years.

Here's one...

Which current MLB manager made exactly one career appearance for the Cubs during his playing career?

Easy...Tony LaRussa pinch ran for Ron Santo, Opening day 1973

Well fine. Crap all over everything I try to do. :p

But anyway, kind of odd that TLR was a former Cub.

What current MLB manager wore 23 for the Cubs prior to Sandberg?

Name the Cub who played trumpet in Doc Severson's band.

What was Dick Tidrow's nickname?

How many years in a row did Fergie Jenkins win 20 games for the Cubs?

Who was the Cubs 3rd baseman when Tinker-Evers-Chance made up the rest of the infield?

What was 'Cap' Anson's real first name?

Who was on the mound for the Cubs when Ruth made his supposed 'called shot'?

Nope not 6. Fergie won 20 or more 6 years in a row for the Cubs but he won 20 only 2 years in a row.

I could answer all of the questions but why ruin it for others. I only responded to the Fergie part because the wording tickled my brain.

Who was the Cubs 3rd baseman when Tinker-Evers-Chance made up the rest of the infield? Harry Steinfeldt

What was 'Cap' Anson's real first name? Adrian(almost named my cat in honor of him)

Who was on the mound for the Cubs when Ruth made his supposed 'called shot'? Charlie Root

Those are the only ones I know for sure.

The currently-unemployed Jim Tracy ignominously wore #23 in his stellar Cubs career.

What was Dick Tidrow's nickname?

Dirt.

How many years in a row did Fergie Jenkins win 20 games for the Cubs?

As noted, six.

Who was the Cubs 3rd baseman when Tinker-Evers-Chance made up the rest of the infield?

Harry Steinfeldt.

What was 'Cap' Anson's real first name?

Baseball's original 3,000 hit man was named Adrian.

Who was on the mound for the Cubs when Ruth made his supposed 'called shot'?

Of course, Charlie "Chinski" Root, a very good pitcher for the Cubs for many years.

Dirt! You are the man Don.

But I don't know an ex-Cub who played trumpet on the Tonight Show, so I get an A-, not an A. :-(

Here's one though: who is the only left-handed catching catcher in Cubs history? And what is his trivia claim to fame other than his left-handedness?

The multi-talented Carmen Fanzone is the trumpeter.

Dale Long who holds/ held the consecutive games with a HR record is our lefty-throwing catcher.

Aaah.....so that explains the username for occasional poster here "Carmen Fanzone's Trumpet", haha!! I always wondered what he/she meant by that.

Actually, I have Fanzone's Topps card, I remember seeing him play. He's an answer to one of your earlier trivia questions, too--Fanzone wore Ryno's #23.
