If I buy something at $1 and then buy something else at $3 thats an increase of extraordinary percentage but when it is all said and done it is still just 2 extra dollars.

On a 100 million dollar payroll spending 3 million dollars more for a $5 million dollar valued player isn't that big of a deal. Especially when the downside of not signing that overpriced players is to pick up somebody who is only worth 2 million or who is extremely risky.

Yes the Cubs could go out and sign a player at 4 million and have that player be worth 4 million. Or they could sign a player at 8 million and have him be worth 5 million. Personally I'll take the overpriced 5 million dollar guy because he adds more wins to the team and the Cubs can afford to pay extra for those extra wins. Again we are not talking about Pittsburgh or Milwaukee we don't have to pinch every penny. We can waste money to maximize wins.

$3 Million is a bullpen setup arm, or most of a very good one, btw.

My goals for the Cubs this off-season:

1. Giles (the lefty protection for Derrek Lee that we thought Burnitz could be)

2. Furcal (an actual leadoff hitter??? Who'da thunk it?)

3. Millwood* (won the AL ERA title and since Burnett is out there will probably not be too overpaid)

* - if the Cubs can't find a better in-house solution

Also get rid of Neifi, Macias and Nomar, pick up Walker's option and have him split time at second and left field (he said he'd play left if he were asked), and trade Patterson unless we're sure we have nothing better in center field.

And fire Dusty Baker.

And you think they won't be able to get that? Again this isn't the Twins.

But its not the Yankees either.

To answer an earlier question, I would rather have a $2 million dollar player that wins two games then an $8 million player that wins 8.
