Anyone think that Penn State can beat Ohio State this Saturday? OSU is coming off a bye week, but PSU is at home. If PSU wins this, holy christ is it going to be nuts here.

Well if you were looking at schedule strength and quality of victories, then Auburn belonged in the title game last year ahead of both USC and Oklahoma... but things don't work that way. Sans playoff, there's probably going to be controversy once again.

I wasn't really referring to the BCS poll. In the AP and Coaches VT is getting closer to Texas each week in amount of votes received. If they both keep winning, VT is eventually going to surpass Texas, especially if they beat Miami. Those polls allow the human thought of schedule strength, quality victories, etc to play a role. As a result it may affect the BCS poll, but not as much as it should. Unfortunately the BCS polls don't use rationality to determine things. If so Auburn would have been in the NC last year, which they deserved. The BCS will be a mess again this year, I think.

EDIT: I hope the BCS will be a mess this year. I worse it gets the more likely it is a more suitable solution will come about.

I'll be pissed if Texas is this years Auburn.

College GameDay is coming to State College this weekend, OH YEAH. Also, I will be tailgating all day with a fine spread, putting away an appropriate share of beverages, and then going bonkers in the student section... can't wait for Saturday!

Imagine how pissed I was when Auburn was last year's Auburn. On a positive note, I was able to watch first hand (if u can call it that from the nosebleed section) the last Sugar Bowl played in the Superdome....quite the bittersweet victory

That will be taken care of 3 games from now.

Tech is a very scary team, and one of the most underrated teams in the nation the past 3 years. Texas gets very little respect in beating Tech every year, yet its always more difficult than beating someone like A&M. I'm glad this years game is in Austin. If Texas can hold you to less than 30, I think UT will win pretty easily.

I hope you enjoy losing.

I'd love to see Tressel put Ginn on Williams. That'd be fun.

Whatever pal, don't get overconfident... the better-paid team doesn't necessarily win all the time!

I can't believe I'm saying this, but I hope OSU wins. OSU needs to be as highly ranked as possible for MSU to bounce back in the polls on the 15th. Plus PSU is the last game of the season for MSU, which gives PSU time to recover so that game will be another quality win for MSU.

Cpatt, I'm curious as to why you thought OSU would be so bad this season. I remember you thinking they'd lose 3, 4, maybe even five games.

I was(am) convinced that it's the caliber of team that they are. They lost 4 games last year, and in their NC year they had a multitude of close games they managed to win, mostly IMO because of Krenzel's game management. I don't think Zwick and Smith are even close to that, and it will cost them in close games. I still think that they'll lose 3-4 games, between road games at PSU, UM, and Minnesota, and a home game against MSU, I see them going .500 in that stretch.

Krenzel didn't have the weapons on offense that Smith has. Smith is his own weapon. I am betting that if Tressel gets Ginn more involved on the offensive side, around 15 or more touches per game, they might not lose again. Holmes and Ginn are better than Michael Jenkins and Drew Carter. I can't see them losing to PSU, Minnesota, or MSU. They'll likely lose to Michigan.

Does quality wins still factor into the BCS polls? I thought they got rid of all that and just use the Harris and coaches polls, plus the average of six computer polls, minus the hightest and lowest for each team. I really don't know what all is a factor these days. It seems every year something changes to make up for the problems the year before.

I didn't mean quality win in the terms of the BCS, but more in the pollsters mindset. Beating OSU coming off a loss when they're likely to be ranked 10-15 would not be as beneficial as beating them coming off a win when they're possibly into the top 5. If Penn State loses now, they have more time to right themselves in the polls before MSU plays them.

Gotcha. This stuff is just so confusing with all these different polls. i wish everything just went by pollsters mindset. It has been just as confusing and controversial since the BCS as it was before. May as well go back to letting people that watch the games and know the teams decide.

Party away Penn State people.....you have a wonderful tailgate party at State College. It's the best I've been to even though I would like to go to LSU's or Nebraska's as I've read they too are incredible.

The tailagting at Beaver Stadium is awesome. I can vouch for LSU's as well. LSU does have the advantage, however, of playing almost all of their home games at night. Longer tailgate party almost always equals better tailgate party.

We never did much tailgating growing up, as we lived less than a mile from Beaver Stadium and would just walk to the games.

I have some family in Altoona and have always been a closet Penn State fan. I must say I am very impressed thus far, especially after Sat. I will be rooting for them this weekend. I was suprised to see them as only 3 point underdogs. Vegas is generally pretty close so I expect a good game.

PS. Penn State and ND meet again next year. I love it when they play. Always good games.

My Huskers continue to be the worst undefeated team in college football. I went to the game Saturday. It was effective, but extremely ugly. Texas Tech will be a major challenge. If we win, there is no reason we shouldn't crack back into the polls.

You're having a nice year there buckaroo try to enjoy it will ya?

I am, just waiting for the bottom fall out though.
