Kyle Farnsworth has converted all eight of his save opportunities with the Atlanta Braves. Combined with his six as a Tiger, he is 14-for-14 in save opportunities this season.

Farnsworth is showing for the first time this season that he can excel as a closer. Will the Tigers try to sign Farnsworth as a free agent this off-season? Will they pursue anyone else, such as Philadelphia left-hander Billy Wagner? Or will they keep right-hander Fernando Rodney as closer?

Let's see here...

'04 overspend for Urbina.

'05 overspend for Percival.

'05 trade for Farnsworth for little given up.

Now, Urbina is traded for Polanco, Percival is injured, and they trade Farnsworth b/c he would likely test FA and not return.

What does the article mention? Bringing Farnsworth back.

Unreal.

I dont want Farnsworth back on an even number year. Just look at the ERA difference from his even number years to his odd numbered years. (Stolen from Littleburr24)

2007, maybe.

Now that Hockey has a salary cap look for the Tigers to really be stupid.

I will say this Dave Drombosky(sp) has done a good job at building up minor league systems in the past. He has finally gotten the Tigers some talent at the A level. They are paying alot of stupid money though. I think they will regress next year.

I have a feeling that Farnsworth will end up getting more than Dempster. Sad but true.

The Tigers could have thought since they were not in contention to trade a FA to be for some young talent. Than if they think they could make a move in the next couple of years pick him back up in the FA market. Shrewd but a big gamble. The Tiger fans loved him though.

I watched Farns pick up the save for Atlanta tonight (9/23)...he looked like the Farns we all wanted while he was in Chicago. He threw his slider on a 3-2 count to get the K...wicked stuff. He was simply overpowering. He didn't get rattled when a call didn't go his way with the game on the line...and delivered in the clutch. why can't these players deliver in Chicago? Someting to do with a Goat, a Black Cat, a Steve Garvey and a Will Clark.

at least we don't have to worry about the cubs going after a good pitcher who doesn't have a history of being an excellent closer that drives his salary through the roof

Or the fact that Farnsworth has Leo Mazzone as his pitching coach now.

Yeah...but that's boring

He was pitching just about as well in Detroit, so you can't use Leo to explain all his success.

I think the fact of the matter is simple and I outlined it last year, over this winter and at the time of the trade. Farnsworth cannot handle a heavy workload. He puts too much effort into his delivery and his recovery time is too long. Detroit was careful early in the season not to overwork him and he's had a successful year.

Huh. Who knew?

And then traded him when his value was at its highest...where did they get that idea, Tim? :D
