Alright guys, I'm sure this has been asked many times before, but I was having a debate with my buddy today. Someone mentioned that if there was a Cardinals vs. White Sox World Series, who would Cubs fans root for? He says the White Sox. He claims that because we have a longer history with the Cardinals and are in the same division, he couldn't root for them. I however, said the White Sox. While I agree that it's hard to root for the Cardinals since they are in the division, I just couldn't ever see myself rooting for the White Sox. To me, the whole White Sox organization and their fans just disrespect the game, while the Cardinals organization is very respectable in my opinion, and the fans are as well.

Just wanted to see what you guys say. If the Cardinals played the White Sox in the World Series and you had to root for one of them, who would you root for? And don't say "neither" because if that was an option, we'd all take it.

I'd probably root for the Cards.

Huh.

Real tough call for me. Living in Cardinal territory it would be terrible having to put up with that, but they have put together a great team and definitely deserve it more than the WS. On the other hand, it would be great to not have to deal with as much grief from Cardinal fans, but sickening to hear about how grinderball won the White Sox a world series.

I'll just say that I don't think it'll matter because the White Sox are about the 5th-6th best team in the AL right now, and there's no way they're making it to the WS.

They lost to the Royals again today. Lead is down to 4.5 games. This could end up being a collapse of epic proportions.

I work with all WS fans. They have been walking around with pained expressions for a while now. A lot different when they jubilantly rubbed the Sox success in my face earlier this year.

Here's what I said awhile back.

I'd rather sit through a new Cardinal dynasty than see one measly Sox title. The Cards and their fans are our neighbors, our rivals, our respected foes. The Sox and their fans are nothing more than the evil twin, mirror universe version of us, they're pure scum of the earth vermin with no redeeming qualities.

I'd root for the White Sox.

Being all the way up here in Brewer Country, there aren't a lot of White Sox fans or haters. The Brewers and the Sox were starting to get a pretty fierce rivalry in the years before the Brewers moved to the NL (I seem to recall Hawk and Wimpy challenging Phil Garner to a fight, and a bench-clearing brawl somewhere in there). However, I really took no interest in that budding rivalry at the time.

I'm not from Chicago, so I really have no utter dislike for the Sox.

However, I hate the Cardinals and everything they represent. I'd definately be rooting for the Sox.

Well, if the Sox keep playing like little school girls, we won't have to worry about this happening. Sadly though, if it somehow did happen, I'd have to root for the Sox. It wouldn't even be so much of me rooting for the Sox as it would be me NOT rooting for the Cardinals. I'd be willing to deal with the years of torment from Sox fans if it kept the Cards from winning the WS. Plus, someone in Chicago needs to win a world series soon before MLB gets smart and takes both teams away and moves them to towns that can win.

Cardinals or White Sox????

This one came up at dinner the other night - if the Cardinals were to meet the White Sox in the World Series, as a Cub fan, who would you root for?

Send us your comments and how you arrived at your decision. NOTE - comments may not be posted till Monday as we're doing some work on the blog this weekend.

My response: NEITHER!

I'd like to think Albert Pujols would win a WS, and I'd like this to be his last chance before the Cubs start pounding the stuffing out of everyone the way they did the Cards this year.

Cards in 6.

Well the truth is the Cardinals are simply a better baseball team than the Sox. While this matchup could happen, I don't see the Sox making it out of the first round of the playoffs.

Yeah, it's hard to see the W.S. making the series now.

I would like a chance at revenge against the Red Sox, actually. But they might miss the playoffs completely.
