He's right, in alot of ways. The Cards are due for a new stadium.

The problem that I have is that he's the wrong messenger. It's insulting to Cardinal fans to have an "outsider" be so derogatory toward their team's home.

Someone else said it well on another board. Your wife may be ugly. You may KNOW that she's ugly. But that doesn't make it O.K. for somebody else to say she's ugly. Maybe Sully needs to learn some manners.

As for "nostalgia", I think that Sully is missing the point. "Nostalgia" isn't born from concrete. It's about what goes on INSIDE the building, and each person's memories of that place. Sounds a little like sour grapes to me.

This is a "family" forum, so I can't tell that overrated hack what to go do to himself.

Something along the lines of "You're a bad writer and the Cardinals have a bad stadium. Next year the Cardinals will have a new one, but you'll..."

I love Wrigley but for any Chicago writer to criticize a park for being run down and dirty is kinf of funny. Wrigley is the greatest ballpark left because of its history but the place is kind of a s**thole. The bathrooms are disgusting and not that nice on the inside. I agree that Busch may not be the best stadium but it is nowhere near as bad as he is making it out to be.

Man, Cardinal fans get so sensitive. The small market insecurity shows up again. It's part of the territory. Most media dogs out other teams' park. Where is the criticism when that idiot Hrabosky moans about the small visiting clubhouse at Wrigley? Or when he calls Shea Stadium a dump. Or when McLaughlin speaks of the "quirkiness" of Dolphin Stadium, or when Buck talks about the small clubhouse at Fenway. I'm sure Bernie Miklasz has been critical of ballparks, too. You give Sullivan too much credit by getting upset at things that others admit are true.

Is it insulting to Cubs fans for "outsiders" like Gordon, Burwell, Miklasz and Hummel to constantly bash the Cubs? No, "outsiders" are entitled to their opinions, especially when they are right - like Sullivan is and the Cards writers have been lately.

Next year, the Cards move into a new stadium (with greater revenue potential), the best GM is baseball and the best team in the NL - now that's something that Cubs fans should be concerned about.

But who cares what I think, what does Vaball think?

The bathrooms have issues, but when I go to a game at Wrigley I'm not going to look at the bathrooms.

I'm going to the restroom to take a piss. I really don't care what it's like in there. I've peed on trees before, so I don't get concerned about the restroom.

Why is it that everyone who wants to criticize Wrigley brings up the bathrooms?

I thought only women got that worked up over where they have to take a piss.

Yes, if a Cardinals media bags on Wrigley, or the Cubs, I would expect you to call them on it.

Don't expect me to defend Hrabosky, or Bernie.

As for Buck, saying that a stadium has "small clubhouses" is alot different than saying that a stadium is "dumpy", and "not a real ballpark".

Like I said, even if your wife is ugly, it's not OK for others to say that your wife is ugly. Sullivan can write what he wants, and Cardinal fans are certainly free to unload on him.

I agree. But it's no more ignorant than Sullivan crying because there are cigarette butts on the ground outside of Busch Stadium. That's digging pretty deep for dirt.

Sullivan pretty much lost credibility with THIS story when he said:

My most vivid memory is being dangled over the left-field wall in the summer of 1978, just for abusing Fredbird.

My understanding is that Fredbird didn't exist until 1979.

This thread is what happens when anyone is stupid enough to read something Paul Sullivan writes.

Sorry, I aspire to someday be as smart as you and not read Paul Sullivan. BTW, no one put a gun to your head to read or respond.

Take it easy, I was making fun of Sullivan. Obviously a person's choice in sports columnists doesn't make them stupid. Seriously though, Sullivan is a hack.

Fredbird was our mystery guest Opening Day first-ball pitcher for the 1978 season

Who cares about the bathrooms? Are you going to NOT go to a baseball game because the area that you take a whiz doesn't have a butler in it? People don't go to baseball games to take in the asthetic (I know that's spelled wrong) beauty of the crapper.

I hate it when people badmouth Wrigley by saying their bathrooms are nasty. WHO CARES!

EDIT: In other words... what Vance and DJAXXFAN said.

Thanks, DJ. Like I said, that was my understanding, from a fellow Cardinal fan Now I know.

True. I love Wrigley but darn is the place run down.

Plus I've learned my lesson to always wear my worst pair of shoes to a Cubs game. It could be a late April day game againts the Padres with 12,000 people in the park and there still would be a half inch of "water" on the floor in the mens room.

If you're going to call me a princess for that, then fine, I'm a princess.

Why would I call them out especially if it's the truth? I guess that's what happens when you pretty much run away with the division and that's all you have to be concerned about. Thanks for the reminder, there are a couple of STL media who have said that Minute Maid isn't a real ballpark. My guess is that every ballpark has been criticized by opposing fans/media with the exceptions of Dodger Stadium (Dodger fans get criticized) and the newer stadiums minus Minute Maid. I still think it's the small market insecurity. Anyway, I would think you all would be more concerned with Willis, Beckett and Burnett than some hack writer from Chicago, who many Cub fans don't like.

I wish he would've mentioned that there are way too many mullets at Busch Stadium.
