RHP Jae-kuk Ryu (11-8, 3.34 ERA) vs. RHP Chad Billingsley (13-6, 3.51 ERA)

Billingsley threw 7 no-hit innings in his last playoff start (a combined no-hitter with Jonathan Broxton against Birmingham). Billingsley throws a 94-97 mph FB, a hard curve, a plus slider and an average changeup; he's the Dodgers top pitching prospect.

What do you guys make of the decision to go with Ryu rather than going back to the top of the rotation again? I have to be honest, I'm not entirely comfortable with Ryu starting twice against Chad Billingsley.

Billingsley's last seven starts, by the way...

46.2 IP, 17 H, 3 HR, 15 BB, 46 K, 0.96 ERA (5 ER)

That's right, 17 hits in his last 46.2 innings. Or 12 hits in his last 40.2 innings, if you prefer. He's also won his last six decisions.

I thought the Jaxx would go back to the top of the rotation since they had that luxury. All MiLB had to say was that he would start since he didn't get a chance to pitch in the opening round.

But they noted Jacksonville going back to Billingsley, their game 1 starter in the last series. I guess the Jaxx are as confident in Ryu as Pinto. I don't like the decision, seeing as Pinto had a much better season.

Guys, think of it this way.. the Jacksonville starting rotation takes a HUGE frop-off after Billingsley. If Billingsley does his thing and the Diamond Jaxx are down 1-0, it won't be the end of the world. Tomorrow night Pinto faces Hull. On paper, thats win number one for the Jaxx. Friday night, Nolasco faces Juarez. Jaxx are up 2-1. Saturday Marmol faces Hanrahan or Orenduff. Series over in four.

Ryu is up for the challenge and there is no sense putting our number one up against their number one if their 2-4 starters couldn't even crack the Jaxx playoff roatation. I personally love this move by Bobby D and A.D.

Of course, you know what they say about the best-laid plans...

If the Jaxx even drop one of games 2-4 and Billingsley is on in 1 and 5, then it's series over for us too.

Then again, it's just as possible that Ryu beats Billingsley, I suppose. Ryu's no bad pitcher, not at all. And Billingsley has his blowups from time to time.

I see the strategy and I know where Bobby and A.D. are going with it. If the Jaxx win tonight they'll be set.

The Jackson Sun had a Championship Preview in today's paper. I linked the article in the SL Playoff Discussion Thread. The Sun is calling for Jacksonville to squeak by the Jaxx for the title.

Ron is going to be talking with Bobby Dickerson in a few moments about the decision to start Ryu and Theriot being called up, among other things.
