nothing like winning 5 of 6 to set up our next 8 game losing streak.

Nice combination win for the pitching staff. Bad offense again. Neifi gets the RBI, but he also accounts for 4 outs. He takes the team lead in GiDPs with 20.

20? Jeez. Good game though. Very exciting, especially those blown calls. Although I suppose we finally caught a break on that last pitch. Probably the home plate umpire feeling sorry for the bad calls.

Anyone else see that amazing Edmonds catch? I know we blast the #$@$ out of him, but that was really a terrific catch.

If Edmonds would sprint back to the point of the catch instead of coasting, he would make those catches with ease rather than having to dive all of the time. Sure, it's a nice show, but he makes those catches more difficult than need be by coasting back on the ball.

True enough however, doing so results in a lower number of Jimmy Dives Alot ESPN highlights.

That was a WS contender the Cubs faced over the last 3 games? In the word of Dr. Evil: rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrright...

Nope, it was a team with it's division locked up and several important players on the mend...it's nothing close to what you're going to see when the playoffs start.

You did notice that Walker, Sanders, and Grudz weren't in that game last night...rrrrrrrrrrrright?

And upon their return, Walker and Sanders, are going perform as if they haven't missed a beat, turn it on, 100%?

Who's to say, but there at least exists the possibility that they might, does there not? Certainly they will be upgrades on defense over everyone (Mabry, Rodriguez, Luna...) but Taguchi. They only need to be hot with the bat for the playoffs...and they have something like a month to get ready for that.

If nothing else, they almost certainly won't perform at a level below what people like Mabry are putting up as their replacements. It will be nice when half the starters are back to being the bench players they are supposed to be.

The game was meaningless for the Cards and there are currently three starters who aren't playing now but are expected back rather soon...I feel confident in saying that what you'll see come playoff time will be significantly different. Perhaps no better, but certainly different and very unlikely to be worse.
