he missed a sign

Dusty made sure to tell everyone why Neifi will start again today...

Jerry Hairston opened the inning by getting hit by a Brad Thompson pitch. On the first pitch, Ronny Cedeno bunted Hairston to second and with first base open, the Cards intentionally walked MVP candidate Derrek Lee. Left-hander Ray King then escaped the jam.

Why was Cedeno bunting with Lee on deck?

''I wasn't bunting,'' manager Dusty Baker said. ''I didn't want to take the bat out of D. Lee's hands.''

Hairston was supposed to run, and Cedeno was not supposed to bunt.

''I missed a sign? I didn't see any,'' said Hairston, who has irked the coaching staff by missing several signs this season. ''Let's make no mistake about it, that's not why we lost today.''

I love how Hairston had to be TOLD he missed a sign by the MEDIA, not Dusty. This is unacceptable of a manager - calling out his scapegoats in the media like this is absurd.

i know this is incomprehendible to dusty but since hairston and cedeno both missed the sign...is it possible the coach screwed up? not out of the question that they both missed it, but when ever two players miss the same sign...it could be that the coach did something else.

it's also possible that dusty realized after the fact how freakin' stupid it was and is covering his own tail.....now that sounds more likely!

dusty has done nothing wrong since he came to chicago - just ask him. he and his coaching staff can't screw up - obviously it's the fault of the rookies and inexperienced players, so we better get proven vets like neifi and macias out there, since they have "truer" throws from shortstop and can get you a sac fly when you're down 3 runs.

So, Hairston was supposed to steal 2nd ahead of Lee instead of being bunted to 2nd. Wouldn't that still take the bat out of Lee's hands unless Cedeno got a hit? Surely Dusty didn't expect a mere rookie to get a hit, did he?

Put together a list of the other MLB organizations that would tolerate Dusty's idiocy. It's not the kind of company a champion keeps.

I would not be surprised AT ALL if this was the case. Dusty realizes how stupid he was so he tries to blame the young guy. And as others have pointed out, if Hairston had stole 2nd it wouldn't have even made a difference unless Cedeno got a hit.

He should've learned the signs in the Minors, no time to work on the fundamentals or signs in the big leagues

I hope someone from the media caught this..

Wait, wait, wait...Hairston missed a sign, Cedeno gets benched? WHAT????

And who is gonna get benched for the missed sign when Walker got thrown out at 2nd? Either he or Blanco missed a sign there too....
