JVB to take Holly's spot and Wood will be placed on the DL so that will make room for one more.

Do you mean on the 40 man? Because I only see 2 spots on the 25 man roster, and another spot opens on the 40 man only if Wood goes on the 60 day DL.

After the Holla trade Murton and JVB will join the team.

Source?

Straight from Hendry's mouth on Comcast sports net.

Thank you.

We remain at 12 pitchers on the 25-man.

Did you doubt that Dusty would stick with 12 pitchers? We've had 12 all year long. Why would Dusty decide to change now. :x

Van Buren has been nothing short of dominant at every level of the minors the past two seasons. It is good to see him get the call, he certainly has earned it.

There has been talk that scouts don't think his stuff can translate to the big leagues. I guess now we will have a chance to find out.

Go Jermaine!

Well we would have said that about cedeno a hundred games ago too...JVB should be used as the #1 set up man and be first inline to take the ball on day three of save situations (you can stop laughing now) :D

I hope that JVB has the sucess that many here think he will. Unfortuantely, he is one pitcher that I cannot get behind. I watched him during spring training this season and he was pitiful. He relies on deception and movement and is similar to JoBo in that respect. I do hope that I am wrong but I won't join this bandwgn immediately.

BTW, Wood doesn't have to go on the 60 day DL to open a spot. JVB takes Hollandworth's spot and Murton takes Wood's spot as Murton is already on the 40 man roster.

Even if he performs well, it will just be because there's no "book" on him yet, though.

:D Yeah, Dusty opened himself on that one. JVB didn't go to Virginia Tech or Florida State did he because players from those schools usually get booked.

Here I thought that was going to turn into a joke about those being schools where the students don't need books.

Those are the only books they have. Those schools just give us too much to use.

I count 41 guys on the 40 man right now.

Including the 25 man active roster we have:

15 Day DL

Wood

ARam

Greenberg

40-man not in Chicago

Aardsma

Bartosh

Guzman

Hill

Koronka

Leicester

Mitre

Pinto

Rohlicek

Soto

Fontenot

Lewis

Grieve

That's 41, plus 60-day DL guy Chad Fox, which makes 42.

Wouldn't Wood go on the 60-day DL?

Bartosh was outrighted to Iowa, so he shouldn't be on that list. So the 40 man roster stands at ....40.

are you sure he's on the 40 man?

i thought he had to be removed when he was sent back to iowa earlier this year.

After the Holly trade, I believe there are only 39 on the 40-man roster. Bartosh shouldn't be counted on the 40-man since he was outrighted on June 21. Grieve should be counted on the 40-man since he was optioned on July 19.

Currently there are 20 pitchers, 3 catchers, 11 infielders (counting Hairston) and 5 outfielders. Van Buren can be added to the 40-man per my math. And he'll replace Wood on the 25-man. Murton to replace Holly on the 25-man.

If Wood is 60-day DLd (I didn't hear the Cubs were going to do that), that would free up another slot to add someone on the 40-man.

Hoops, are you counting Wood and/or Van Buren among the 20 pitchers?

With Wood and Van Buren included, I've got the 40-man roster at an even 40 (21 pitchers).
