Macias

Hank White

Corey

Nomar

Matt Lawton (since joining the Cubs)

and just barely misses having a higher OPS than Dusty favorite Neifi Perez

Maybe we should think about making him a pinch hitter, like the Rockies did with Mike Hampton? :D

Babe Zambrano?

Well, their bodily makeup is similar. Z is just taller.

Their swing is similar (both a swatting motion), Z's is just cooler because he's Z.

And Z isnt a prick to some of his team mates.

Maybe he could fill in a little in left field.....

07/14 - 08/17 AB R H 2B 3B HR TB RBI BB SO BA OBP SLG OPS
Zambrano 19 1 6 2 0 1 11 3 1 3 0.316 0.350 0.579 0.929

I know nobody here cares too much about K's, but for a pitcher, that's an amazing K rate.

Thought this deserved a bump and an update after his 2-4 performance today.

Z now has a higher OPS than:

Nomar

Ronny Cedeno

Hairston

Hank White

Neifi Perez

Corey

Macias

Not only that, since the All-Star break his OPS is near 1.000.

With Mike Hampton now out for at least a year, I think the crown of best-hitting pitcher belongs on Z's head.

Z is impressive (and has nearly eclipsed Neifi in offensive value), but I think Marquis still gets the nod for best hitting pitcher this year - .321/.329/.481

Will Zambrano get the Silver Slugger award this year?

Dontrelle or Marquis

Z is the best fun to watch, though.

Of any player.

(That includes Tim Wakefield, and I do love his do-or-die but more often the latter knuckleballing).

I read in the Tribune today that Zambrano was possibly going to be given some pinch hitting duties to give him a shot at the most hits in a season by a Cubs pitcher. While I think Big Z is a better option than a lot of the bench, I don't like the idea of the less than nimble Zambrano running the basepaths any more than he has to.

 Z may be less than nimble, but your phrasing certainly isn't. (That's meant as a compliment)

I kind of agree, but we can always use Corey as a pinch runner, right? He may as well see what the bases look like.

Cruel, but true.
