In his latest article, Peter Gammons mentions a number of the players that made it through waivers. For the Cubs, Hollandsworth and Walker got through. Gammons mentioned both as being very attractive if the Cubs continue to slide. Players that were claimed and brought back from waivers included Rusch, Patterson, and Neifi. Personally, I would like to see us get something for Hollandsworth.

Wow. Neifi got claimed and Walker didn't. Bit of a shocker.

Does anyone think that this means Walker has already vested for 2006?

Walker doesn't vest until 525 Plate Appearances, he's not going to vest.

Thanks, Cots didnt have the # and roto said it was unknown so I thought it wasnt reported...if he vests at 525, how many PAs would he have needed to vest at 2.75?

Maybe there's a reason why Walker's cheap and no one wanted him??

Yeah, who wants a .300 hitting second baseman making so little?

Yeah. We need more SS/2B/3B types who walk about once a month, hit .220, and hit into DP's every time there's a runner on first.

After all, that's how you win championships.

What are you even talking about? Over the last 10 games he's hit .301/.349/.465 with 18 doubles and 8 home runs. Sure, he's struck out more times than he's walked, but his OBP is at least respectible, and he hits for power.

Did you just totally make up that hitting .220 crack, or what?

Perhaps he was talking about Neifi?

This is almost like a rant but it's a response to a post.

We know Lee, Ram and Barrett. That means we need a quality LH bat. Walker, Patterson and Burnitz are all we have now.

The Dusty never let Cedeno play so we may bring Nomar back. That almost means we need to bring back Walker which blocks the middle of the infield for Cedeno and Fontenot.

Who's responsible? I want heads to roll!!!

(Cedeno @ Trips = .371/.416/.554, Fontenot @ AAA = .272/.386/.423)

After the trade deadline we see Murton batting leadoff. He wasn't good enough to start in front of Hollandsworth (.197/.260/.348 for July) but got promoted from hitting 8th to 1st.

The manager of my team needs to be fired!!!

I have no beef with the players. Not Perez, not Hollandsworth, not Macias. My beef is with Hendry. Specifically, why haven't you canned the Dusty?

Seriously, don't be dragged down by the bone (head).

I was. Who did Zaphkiel think I was talking about?

Actually, these claims and non claims make sense.

Claimed:

Patterson: young enough and worth claiming

Perez: bad enough that the Cubs wouldn't mind trading him but good enough to appear valuable

Rusch: LH pitcher that can spot start

Unclaimed:

Walker: other teams don't believe the Cubs would be dumb enough to trade him

Hollandsworth: not much value

I think as a rule, you only claim people for two reasons. 1) to block another team from getting that player, but that doesn't happen much, I seem to remember someone getting really bitten by claiming Randy Myers years ago. 2) because it's someone you actually think the waiving team will let you just have.

Really no other reason, if it's a good contract why would the waiving team let you have him, and if you really do want that player, as soon as he clears you can deal with the team who put him on waivers.

Sorry for my above post, but you'd quoted someone talking about why we'd want Walker, and then your post was about Neifi, so I was confused. :)

lol no, just for the record I love the way Walker plays, I love his game, and I want to see him as the starting 2B man next year.

Incase that team falls out of contention and is ready to deal...

While I agree that Dusty should be fired, I think we should pick and chose when we argue against him and JH. The fact that Fontenot is hitting 272 at AAA and is blocked by Walker (who is hitting 300 plus in the bigs) is a really silly point and only makes those of us who really want Dusty gone for valid reasons loook as though we would complain about anyone there. When you complain about everything under the sun even if some of it is valid the message gets watered down. It looks as though you are whining and people don't like whiners.

See also Democrats complaining about GW. They complained about silly stuff (such as what he wore) to the point where everyone just ignored everything even the valid points.

I don't want Fontenot replacing Walker, I want him replacing Macias/Neifi.

The point I make is simple, Dusty had a chance to see what Cedeno could do. Since he failed to use him we have no idea if he can play at the major league level. Because of this it's likely we bring Nomar back at SS. Much less expensive but still a real cost. Given that LH hitting in the lineup is important and we spend to bring Walker back. While I like Walker and like him enough to consider him my second sacker for next year right now we have a problem. Can Cedeno play at the major league level? If not, we have to bring back Perez and if we can't trust Cedeno (let alone Fonenot) shouldn't we bring back Macias as well?

Dusty kept Murton in a platoon and batted him 8th until Hendry traded for Lawton. Now Murton bats leadoff (not often enough) but all the freaking sudden.

The bottom line is that Dusty is an idiot that makes everything more expensive.
