Aramis looked pretty good getting a double in his first at bat tonight. I don't buy the fact that he's taking it easy because he's hurt. I don't doubt he has issues, but he should at least be hustling. That's not going all out, but it's running through first base on every hit.

Nomar is supposedly still coming back, but I don't see him dogging it down the line.

Aramis looked great last year, and he needs to be a little more like that, and a little less like Manny.

I'm actually pretty tired of the 'he's hurt' excuse as a catch-all for all of Aramis' lack of hustle and poor judgement. Now, before everyone jumps on me, I'm not talking about running your hardest on a grounder to 2nd. I know that Aramis is hurt and I know that it's important to the team that he doesn't further aggravate his injury, but I saw first hand his laziness when I went to the first game of the Cubs-Cards series. Aramis popped up to shallow right along the line and didn't start running until the ball was just about to drop. That isn't him protecting his leg.. it's him being lazy. He's probably my favorite player alogn with Z, and he was actually my preseason MVP because I see his likeness to Pujols as well, but his inability (if not reluctance) to seize the opportunity of an extra base is killing me. Would I go so far as to call him a paradox? No. Is he the only one on the team lacking fundamentals? Of course not. But it's tough when it's Aramis making the fundamentally unsound plays as opposed to a scrub like Macias.

The Cubs plan to keep a close eye on Aramis Ramirez and Carlos Zambrano this winter, with trips to their native countries by trainer Mark O'Neal and strength coach Tim Buss. The Cubs apparently are worried about them reporting to spring training out of shape.

Evidently, the Cubs are finally listening to the posters at NSBB. I see this as a very positive step for the organization.

NSBB should be Cubs GM by committee, with the top 38 posters each having 1 week. It should start in acending order.

Oh lookie. I'm first!!

Pretty sad when baseball professionals need advice from message board geeks like us. We should start posting specific ideas about Aramis' new fitness regimen and see if the Cubs trainers adopt them. No doubt our ideas will be as good as theirs.
