...is the riddance of the excessive bat waving in his preswing. I've always been a beliver it was the BIGGEST reason for the excessive popups and K numbers since it caused him to swing with his arms. Now that he's toned this down I've noticed he's swinging more with his hands. This has allowed him to stay on top of the ball as well as make more consistent contact. As a known Corey hater, I have to admit this is a positive sign. If he can continue to use his hands as the primary catalyst for his swing he may very well turn his career around.

But what I can't understand for the life of me is how this wasnt' corrected sooner. If an untrained eye such as myself, could spot this weakness years ago then what does this say about our coaching staff? Do we have that many incompetant individuals in the dugout as to not spot the obvious sooner? If there was any doubt in Hendry's mind about the intellect of our current crop of coaches this is irrefutable proof. Do the right thing Jim, extracate these clowns out of here.

He was on today. 0fer4 with a K.

Did you see the game?

He had a very good bunt that was almost a single and smoked a line drive to LF, but it was right at the left fielder. The K was against a LOOGY who has held lefties to a .150 average.

The most impressive thing is that he appears to be going with the pitch and using all fields, rather than just pulling the ball like he was doing before the demotion.

Well, it works for Gary Sheffield... :P

I think bat-waving is kinda stupid and juvenile. I also think Shef does it to try to distract the pitcher... although good pitchers look at the batter from the waist down. That's what Prior said he did, in an interview when he first came up.

Finally, I think that Gary Sheffield is still getting some "help", and he's a drug test away from being in a Palmeiro-style doghouse.

The difference is that Sheffield has one of the fastest swings in the game. He can afford to do it because he gets to and through the zone so quickly. Corey does not have this luxury.

Nice job pointing that out. WHen you have hands as fast as Sheffield's, you can get away with stuff like that. Patterson's hands are pretty fast, but not as fast as Sheff's.

Corey looked pretty good at the plate on Friday. O-fers don't always tell the whole story. He's looking a lot more comfortable at the plate these days.

The reports of Corey's resurgence are greatly exagerated.......

As others have pointed out, the results aren't there yet. That being said, it's quite obvious how different Corey's approach, both mentally and physically, are compared to last month. I'm hopeful and confident that the results will come.

Go Corey !!

If that's what passes for a "resurgence" these days, then I'd say our Cubbies are in deep, deep trouble.

I'm sick of waiting for Corey to produce. He's old enough & experienced enough now. Produce, or we need to find someone who can.

I'm saying that 4 games isn't enough time to say he isn't hitting. His approach since he has come back has been better and that should lead into a more productive hitter. Give him more time before you brand him as changed or unchanged, especially if you are only going by numbers.
