I think the cubs should bring back Patterson. They are getting beat by a combination of BAD defense and no hitting. Patterson fits right in in one of those areas ( no hitting) but at least he can go get a fly ball and play decent defense. The worst thing that happens is you bring him back and bat him @ the end of the order, if he doesn't hit his weight so be it, he might accidentally hit a homerun which Macias can't do but he will play good defense which Macias also can't do. How does he let a player score from first on a SINGLE up the middle. If Dusty wants to keep him around ( Macias) , let him. Send Cedeno down to get AB's, sitting on the bench in the majors is doing nothing for him. It is sooooo frustrating watching this team right now

Get Patterson back up ASAP!!! I don't care what kind of Bill James fielding efficiency "stat" can be thrown out there, my human eye tells me the Cub defense is well below average. I feel sorry for the Cub pitchers.

I agree, none of them are hitting right now, so Patterson isn't gonna kill us too bad there. At least he can field.

Bring up Patterson, platoon Murton and Lawton, let Cedeno spell Nomar when he doesn't play. Rebuild for next year.

Well, CPat at least would bring us better defense, but I fear he would struggle at first and the Wrigley fans would boo him like they did before. I'm still not really sold that he has worked out all problems with his swing.

Just bat him 7th, which isn't too important of a spot in the order. It sounds like Zambrano was really p'd off tonight at the d.

WHO CARES IF HE GETS BOOED! He is a professional athelete. If he doesn't want to get booed tell him to get a job in the real world. When was the last time you were booed at your job? It just comes with the terratory! How fragile are these MILLIONAIRES anyway?!

Do you think the boos will help Corey perform better? Fragile or not, deserved or not, I think they could have a negative effect on Patterson's performance, which is something I care about.

I hope not. I was just echoing Cubsin05's concern, and tried to hedge my statement with a couple of or-nots.

If he can't take the booing, then he'll never make it. What is Hendry suppose to do?? Keep Patterson in the minor's forever to shield him??

No need to use hyperbole to try to prove your point. I never suggested Hendry should shield him in the minors, just echoed a concern about his ability to adjust to MLB pitching if promoted too soon. The Cubs already did that once, it'd be a shame to do it again, imo.

He has every right to be. With the offense as well. He pitched 8 shutout innnings last outing to the tune of 0 run support. Which has been his thing all year. He should have at least double digit wins by now.

I fear for our FA pitching situation if this offense or defense doesn't improve.

My guess is they won't be able to get him down there again. So they'll either have to deal with him if he's not ready or trade him. And right now, I'm guessing Hendry has practically thrown in the towel. CPatt isn't working for a September call-up to save the team, he's working on increasing his trade value.

Agree. It looks like Pie will get a shot at cf next year. They won't increase Patterson's trade value by letting him sit at Iowa.

I believe you continue to put pressure on C. Pat and really see what happens. He might just suprise his team, his manager and the fans. He certainly has the ability to do it. It just might be the thing to do.

I aruged that C. Pat. has the ability to be better then C. Beltran last year. I still believe that. Unfortunately, his numbers also say he could go the other way. I say squeeze him in and force him to become the player he can be, or have him fail and move on to Pie. At least giving him the chance to really show the Cubs the best he had to offer before going with another player in CF.

I see no other choice.

You guys are forgetting that Patterson had looked pretty lost in the field before getting sent down. Bad routes to balls and lousy reads were allowing plays to get by him and fly balls to sail over him. The Cubs as a whole were painful to watch during the Atlanta series, but I think if you focused on Patterson for the whole series, it was even more painful (if that's even possible). His funk extended to his entire game, so don't be so convinced that bringing him back would at least show us a good glove. If he hasn't worked out what he needs to work out in the minors, then addition by subtraction is not a viable option in Patterson's case. Leave him there for as long as it takes. He will not patch up any holes on this team otherwise, even considering how bad the options have proven to be.

More radical ideas by you posters: play Murton, recall Patterson, put Burnitz in CF, etc. You guys are so predictable because you want outfielders playing the OF.

Do you want everyone to bring up the Nomar for left campaign? There's got to be a better option in CF than Macias. I've never watched Burny in Center and I also think he would be bad but if it lets Murton into the lineup, I'm all for it. I would leave Corey in AAA personally.

I'm torn on what to do about Corey. I think he should get ONE final chance, and if he doesn't show improvement, cut bait and go with Pie.

That being said, when should he get that chance? September, or 2006?

If he's still hitting low .200's by September 1st, then he should stay in Iowa until spring training. If he can prove himself worthy then, give him another shot. If he's still playing like a bum, he can stay in Iowa again next year. Just my opinion though.

Patterson's hitting over .270 at Iowa with a pretty good walk rate.

My mistake. Didn't think his average was that high. I still don't think we should bring him back just yet though.
