If the Cubs don’t recall Patterson, it’s possible they could purchase the contract of center fielder Calvin Murray from Iowa. Murray, a veteran, played last September for the Cubs. Before Thursday’s game, when Hairston’s status was uncertain, manager Dusty Baker addressed the possibility of Patterson coming back.

{sighs  } If that happens, then we KNOW whose team this is. Can we nominate Calvin Murray an early entrance into the "Dusty Boys?"

I think it is more likely that Corey comes up. According to Bruce Levine (as you probably already know) they were planning to bring him up soon anyway.

It would suck if Murray is promoted to the active roster.

1. Reds demote Austin Kearns

Cubs demote Corey Patterson

2. Kearns tears up AAA

Patterson continues his slump in AAA

3. Kearns is hitting .297/.333/.514 since returning

Patterson = ???

Patterson hasn't exactly been tearing it up in the minors, so I don't know how credible calling CPatt up--after hitting something like .214 in the minors---would be. I would personally call up Dwaine Bacon, instead of Patterson, simply because Patterson has earn his way back to Chicago.

Baker didn't exactly offer a ringing endorsment of Patterson's potential return to the Cubs:

"You'd think he'd be the logical choice," manager Dusty Baker said (of Patterson). "If nothing else, we need somebody to catch the ball."

Works for me.

Poor guy has seen all of one pitch in the majors so far. At least he has an interesting story to tell his grandkids.

How's Bacon doing? I know in previous years he didn't hit for much but was fast as hell.

Bruce Levine was on ESPN 1000 a minute ago and he said he thought Cpatt isn't ready to be called back up yet. He said don't look for him to be recalled today. The Cubs want to give him another week or 2 down in the minors before they call him up. That's fine by me as long as it's not Calvin Freaking Murray called up instead.

Corey shouldn't get a callup until he starts hitting. What kind of message would that send? And besides, if he's having trouble hitting AAA pitchers, he'll most certianly have trouble hitting ML pitchers, which will completely destroy his confidence if it's not shattered already.

Nothing like contradicting your own scoop.

At least maybe someone can ease his pain in a movie ala Moonlight Graham.

Haha. It's not the first time he's contradicted himself.

With Macias playing center yesterday, it wouldn't surprise me if he, Holla and Burnitz split time there. Perhaps they don't send out Ronny like they had originally planned, with Neifi being available to backup 3B. Or, bring up McClain as 3B depth and send down Ronny.

More than likely, however, I'd guess Murray is brought up.

I didn't think his injury was that bad..Oh wait this is the Cubs organazation telling us about injuries..

They said it was just a sprained ankle at first, but I think they found that he had a pretty bad bone bruise. He's been on the DL for 2 months now. From last report he's supposed to be coming back soon.
