I'm betting the Chiefs/Cougars game gets rained out tomorrow.

My first Chiefs game: rain before we left, no problems at the game

My second Chiefs game: the July 4th game, long rain delay

My third Chiefs game: the first nomar game, rained out

My fourth Chiefs game: tomorrow

I think I maybe challenging Murton for the "human rain delay" nickname. :(

Well ... good luck seeing the game. Gallagher will be pitching tomorrow (if it's not rained out!).

Chiefs lose 4-3, the Cougars' winning run an unearned run on an error by Simokaitis.

Here's a good line from David Brandt's "The Last Hurrah" article in the Jackson Sun about Adam Greenberg:

He started on July 28, but has only pinch hit since. After Wednesday's game, Greenberg said he's back to 100 percent.

''I'm seeing the ball well and they can use me anyway they like,'' Greenberg said. ''It's good to persevere and get through this. Now, I'll just keep playing hard.''

Boise report

Sorry, but I missed the first game of the series due to jet lag.

Since the box score has already been posted, I will just run through my impressions of the game.

The good;

1) Matthew Avery - Pitched 6 very solid innings. Only had two balls that were hit solidly against him. - a single and a sac fly. He doesn't blow hitters away, but they just didn't make good contact. Good control, changes speeds and locations. He only allowed one walk and did not go deep into many counts. He had three strikeouts. The first two he seemed to use an off-speed pitch (slow curve?) to get the final strike. Those of you who follow Peoria should enjoy watching Avery next year.

2) John Defendis - Two solid singles. But while I noticed his .304 average entering the game I also noticed just 1 double and no homeruns. A corner outfielder has to be able to hit with power.

3) Kyle Reynolds - A single and a homerun. The homerun was not a cheap shot either. A screaming liner to right that was still rising as it left the park. My initial impression is that he is the first geniune prospect I have seen playing at second for Boise. Decent glove too, with a strong, quick-release, throw to first. I didn't get to see his range being tested.

4) Jake Muyco - He didn't have much of a night at the plate, but he did look good behind it. It is hard to judge from one night, but he appears to be very good defensively. He made a couple of very nice catches of pop-outs, demonstrated a very strong and accurate arm, and I liked the way he handled the pitchers.

The bad;

1) Davy Gregg - With a .306 average and 28 stolen bases, Davy was one player that I really wanted to see. But Davy was working on his small ball skills last night. Three attempted bunts last night and none of them successful. He needs to deaden the ball. All were hit directly at a fielder. But I should be careful with my criticism. The Cubs had Bacon and Walker doing the same thing at Boise. Both of them had a real hard time keeping their average above .200. They both went on to do well at the upper levels of the minors (though it is doubtful that they will make it to Chicago). So in comparison Davy is doing well.

The Ugly;

1) Boise's relievers. Namely Hunton and Holden. Hunton has a nice fastball, but seemed to get into trouble when he went away from it. Holden didn't show much.

SALAS carries CUBS IN 4-2 VICTORY

Daytona Cubs Shortstop Issmael Salas The Offensive Charge With Three Huge Hits On Wednesday Night

By Bo Fulginiti

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla—Anyone who has ever met Cubs infielder Issmael Salas, knows that he spends everyday at the ballpark with a huge smile on his face.

On Wednesday night, he gave the fans at Jackie Robinson Ballpark a reason to smile right along with him.

In Game 2 of a four-game series against the Clearwater Threshers, Salas led the charge as he went 3-for4 with a pair RBI doubles, a solo homerun and two runs scored, to help guide Daytona to the victory by a final of 4-2.

Cubs starter Yorkin Ferreras (1-3) notched his first Florida State League victory in over two years, as the left-hander logged six full innings and gave up two runs on five hits while striking out four.

Threshers starter Chris Honsa (3-4) went seven full innings but gave up three earned runs on five hits and was charged with his third loss of the season.

The Cubs ‘pen was also stellar as lefties Paul Shappert and Clay Rapada combined to retire the final nine Threshers in order, while Rapada notched his third save of the season.

Rapada also recorded two strikeouts in the final frame and has now 54 K’s in 38.1 innings of work.

With the win the Cubs improved to 16-22 for the second half while the Threshers dropped to 14-24. The two teams will go head-to-head for Game 3 on Thursday night at the Cubs send righty Juan Mateo (7-5, 3.96 ERA) to face off against Threshers right-hander Scott Mathieson (2-4, 3.99 ERA).

First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. EST.
