1.1 IP, 3K. Went from 98 to 58 on the gun, and looked incredible according to the person sending me updates. There was a big crowd in Peoria for the game.

Kinda struck me as odd, but my mom swears that those were the ranges. Also, he's very cute.

It sounded like he was absolutely filthy. He threw exclusively from the stretch. Faced 4 hitters. Was throwing in the 96-98 range on his fastball. He only threw 16 pitches (3 balls). He struck out 3. Only one guy made contact on him (a weak popup to the 2nd baseman). Really sounded dominant.

His stuff has never been in question, his health on the other hand...

Yes, I agree. However, he's making progress. He went through without any concerns, as far as I know/read.

Hopefully we'll be seeing some of that filthy stuff he has to the pen.

Man, I hope he doesn't so well in the pen that the Cubs make him a permanent reliever.

Unless his off-season surgery doesn't go that well, I don't see how they could deny him a spot in the rotation.

I doubt that'll happen. We need him in the rotation more. That being said, you rip their #@$ing faces off Kerry!!!

You don't pay Wood's large salary for a reliever...

You do if the other option is a start followed by trip to the DL every time he starts.

Unless of course, he can manage to be as dominant as Mariano Rivera in the pen...

Now that we have establish Kerry Wood's "cute factor", maybe having that monkey off his back will help KW pitch better.

Didn't the Cards initially make Matt Morris a reliever after TJS, so that he could build his arm strength, without having the starters "workload?" I do not forsee a permantely switch to relief, even if he is dominant. I actually believe working out of the pen, and losing a pitch (I heard the Cubs ask KW to drop a pitch) might help get KW back on track with his career. If he can turn that corner....NO TRIO in baseball could match Z/Prior/Wood.

Sure you do. At this point, you play him wherever he can stay healthy and actually pitch.

I was at the game too. The gun did say 58 on two consecutive pitches, but it was definitely malfunctioning, as the two pitches were both fastballs.

Wood ought to be able to have no problem with Single-A hitters.

His stuff has always been ridiclous, it's just that he gets wild and gets hurt frequently.

When he's on, he's absolutely unhittable.

I agree, every time I watch his 20K game, Unbelievable stuff. I remember, on a different day, when the ump had to check the ball and him, because he couldn't believe how much the ball was breaking. That huge 12-6 curve. Couple that with 96-98 mph heater and, well, it's just not fair for hitters.
