Griffey is not in the lineup, no explanation given that I have seen. It seems a bit odd considering Kearns is also not in there. Deals can be made and not announced until after the deadline, just wondering if there's anything to this or not.

It is Sunday. Lots of regulars get a day off on Sunday. I'm watching and nothing has been said other than the rather unearthshattering moves the Padres made the last few days.

I find it odd considering the Reds have tomorrow off already, and SD has Woody pitching. Griffey has absolutely killed him in the 31 ABs he has had (.419/.538/.935/1.474).

Griffey is not a spring chick. He's also injury prone. He also plays a very difficult position. It's a day game after a night game. I find nothing unusual about it. He can still come in and pinch hit if they fall behind. The Reds aren't exactly battling for anything this year.

If a move for Griffey had been made, we'd have already heard about it. He's a guy who could be traded in the next month, as he'll surely pass through waivers with ease.

I also thought it was odd that they'd give him a routine day off on a day when there's a pitcher on the mound that he's hit so well in his career. Guess it was nothing, though.

It may not be in this case, but it COULD be that a trade was agreed to before the deadline, but not announced yet because Commissioner's Office approval is needed due to cash being involved. The Nomar trade wasn't announced until after the deadline last year.

Agreed. It is still possible, but I wouldn't bet anything on it. It's over an hour after the deadline and there is NO news.

Good point. Could be a complicated deal w/ Cincy picking up Griffey's deferred money.

Dunn just made it unnecessary for Griffey to leave the bench (grand slam). Dunn made Petco look like the best hitter's park in baseball this weekend.
