Anybody but Pie, and I'd do it.

Milledge is better than Pie, and Cameron is a little better than Gerut. So it would definitely take Pie. At least in that incarnation of the deal.

Can Murton play rf?? If so, send them Burnitz, Pie and Rusch. They can use a lefty reliever/starter. I'm tired of waiting til next year.

I'm all for it. But then again, I'm not the smartest trade or risk management analyst.

Even though it would hurt later... seeing as how close it could be to get Manny... would you care if Hendry gave up what would be thought as ALOT as long as we get Manny (and at a reduced cost)?

I just can't get "3DLee-4MRam-5ARam" outta my head!

If we had to deal Pie, I think I'd rather have Dunn.

I'd rather have dunn reguardless (due to contract, age, and antics). But I'd do backflips for either.

if hendry wouldn't trade rich hill straight up for dunn (which is whack, dude), then why would he trade pie + other stuff for him?

My guess is that Hendry values Manny over Dunn. Perhaps by quite a bit, especially if Boston is willing to send $10-15 million Chicago's way.

Maybe I'm misreading your reply, CubfaninCA, but I think sonic was saying if he Hendry wouldn't give the Reds Hill for Dunn straight up then, why would they give Cincinnati Pie + others for Dunn now?

Not why give more for Manny instead of the other deal to try for Dunn.

When I heard that, it sounded like he was trying to bring Dunn's price down so that the Reds wouldn't make Hendry have to massively overpay for him.

It just occurred to me that this Manny thing could turn into a Sammy situation.

Wait - Wait - Wait!

I'm not talking about his contract. I'm talking about us 'needing' to remove Sammy from this team at all costs. If nothing gets done with the Mets and the BoSox get desperate that could be a great opportunity for JH to swoop in and get Manny at a bargain $ price and package a more palatable prospect package with say Patterson and Mitre (or Rusch),

Realistic?

I'm at the point where I just don't care anymore. Get me Manny to play LF and it wouldn't make a lick of difference to me how it happened or what we're gonna look like in the future because of it.

yeah, i was a little ambigious i suppose. but i guess you could make the same point about manny as well. does hendry really regard manny that highly? does anyone really know how hard hendry is pursuing manny? i know hendry does a great job of working under the radar, but it seemed like the major sports outlets had speculated much further in-depth on the cubs getting aramis and nomar then they have this deal. i wouldn't be surprised if the cubs were able to pull it off, but it just seems like it's not that likely to happen. all i hear is mets and devil rays from everywhere, except of course NSBB.

i don't think anyone has a real clue what's going on with hendry this year. there's just too many possibilities, and too many intangibles to figure out what's going to happen next. 16 more hours to go, damn it.

There's STILL nothing being said about other teams (Cubs particularly) being interested/trying to get Manny. Its all about the supposedly dead [would have been] deal between BOS and NYM.

I think this scenario has been mentioned before. I'm not sure Hendry would press his luck as far as the deal you suggested, even if Epstein was desperate.

That said, for it to be a truly Sosa like deal, Manny would have to stink up the place when he started playing for the Cubs and Patterson would be an important role player for Boston in final months.

You gotta believe that the Red Sox players want Manny gone. I mean he's basically quit on them in the last few days and he got into it with Schilling.

I've never seen a guy more actively campaigning to get traded than this guy. Its completely obnoxiously obvious!

Well Hendry's not a Moneyballer who goes strictly by numbers. I think he'd assume that Manny would get back to his 1.000+ ops w/ a change of scenery and Hendry probably prefers Manny's pennant run/playoff experience.

Sometimes I think that many of the people at ESPN (Olney and Gammons in particular) are so preoccupied with the teams from the northeast and what they are doing that they overlook the rest of the world.

frankly, i highly doubt it. only the red sox know how dire this situation is. from a bargaining perspective, they're not going to come out and say "WE WANT THIS GUY OUT AT ALL COUNTS". if he's not traded, then i think they can live with him. if he's traded for sergio mitre, then i guess they wanted him out.

Sure seems like the Cubs could offer a better set of players than the Mets. Burnitz, Walker and Rusch could all help Boston this season. With Cruz coming to Boston, the Cameron deal could be dead.

Do You guys think the Cubs are going to pull off a trade for Alfonso Soriano cause i belive the Rangers are going to trade him and i belive the Cubs are the possibable suiters

Red Sox looking for bullpen help and another OFer, re: Buster Olney.

HELLO TRADE OPPORTUNITIES, Jim!

Give them Mitre, Wellemeyer, Patterson-or-Gerut, *Pie and Rusch if its ONLY ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY to give them either or both* and for all that, we would get Manny for 5-8M this year and 10 next (those reduced prices would come even if they don't get Pie and/or Rusch too).

You think Tampa or NY leaked the alleged deal?? Hendry's seems to keep things quite confidential.
