Yes but Nomar was also started to be rumored to be traded 2-3 weeks before the deadline. Manny's name is just now coming up 4 days before the deadline.

Also with Nomar, the Cubs were the main team connected to him in the rumors and speculation with the media. There's really nothing tying Manny to the Cubs.

If people get their hopes up extremely high or start to expect Manny, that's up to them. But with the little ground this rumor has to stand on, people shouldn't really be dejected or upset with Hendry if it doesn't happen.

I listened to Hendry on WGN radio today and he didnt seem too optimistic about a trade because unlike last year everybody is looking for a setup man and OF and it would cost too much for us. He also said that Cedeno isnt going anywhere and that he called Murton "rising star". He also mentioned that he doesnt want to get rid of anymore prospects because he wants them to grow as Cubs. He did mention he is not looking for a quick fix.

So basically he is looking to rebuild

I'm pretty sure that the Dodgers and Angels were speculated to be the frontrunners for Nomar's services last July.

Well then, I guess a relevant question is; do people feel that with the way our team is setup now, and with getting Nomar & Williamson back in a week or 2 (plus Wood in the bullpen shortly thereafter) - is this current Cubs team good enough to win the Wild Card, if no trades are made (should Jim either not be able to or just simply not wanting to)?

Let me say that yes, I know we are 12-6 in our last 18 and all this was without a healthy Nomar, but this same team (and in the last 18 games) has encountered the occasional run-scoring droughts and a bad bullpen.

I would think our current team would be alright if Murton gets his fair share of time in LF and Cedeno is first pick to relieve Nomar when he needs it, but knowing Dusty is coach... well, to be succinct, its a known issue.

I personally dont think so. So far the Stros are a superior team.

Of that there is no doubt. They are just being stupid right now (speaking of the 'Stros), coming from so far back and now tied for the WC lead.

Yeah I really doubt Jim would go on the air and say "I'm really working hard at something" or "Something is close" Because if nothing happens he looks like a dope.

Has a GM ever announced that he is planning on acquiring or very close to trading for a partcular player? It seems like that would be really stupid.

I don't expect Hendry, or any GM for that matter, to come right out on television and announce that they are trying hard to acquire a player. It is a bad idea if you want to keep any leverage during negotiations. If all of us somehow manage to survive until Sunday, we will see what does (or doesn't) happen.
