Someone forgetting about all of Mo Alou's GIDP to 3rd base? Felt like he made six for every HR he hit, at least.

For the record, I like TWalk. I'm just pissed off with his recent play. I'm sure it will improve.

I can relate what you're going through GlassCow. Some of us are upset about some player's performance, but we just gotta remind ourselves that some have their ups and downs. *shrug*

Walker hits into fewer double plays than the average major leaguer. There are only four guys who have played for the Cubs this year that are better at avoiding double plays.

I wish we had 10 TWalks on this team. He won't ever hit 30 homers, but he has some of the best plate discipline on a team which is DEAD LAST in the NL in walks. I honestly feel better with TWalk batting than anyone of the team with the exception of Lee and Aram, maybe Burnitz. I'm dumbfounded that someone would actually complain about him.

 

Let's get back to complaining about Hollandsworth and Neifi.

The funny thing is that the player most likely to hit into a DP on the roster is Neifi Perez. Actually, 6th most likely in the majors.

 

I was thinking "What about Neifi, man?" when I read about the DP aspect of Walker. Thanks for the stat.

 

Oh, and for my pennies. T-Walk's been consistent this year. Not brilliant, not terrible, but good enough and certainly better than others both with the bat and in the field - though I do have a rather vivid memory of a ball going through his legs. That might have been a dream, though.

Why not? A good player whom the media anointed as a great player because he was one of their buddies. And he felt the need to bad-mouth the Cubs when they decided to stop paying him 5 or 6 mil per year for 12 HRS and 70-75 RBIs. Those are lead-off man numbers and this guy hit third or fourth his whole career with the Cubs. Enough Mark Grace already.

Walker has played well for the majority of the season, every player has off games, Walker has had more games where he has been on than off.

 

He's been an asset more than a liability for this team. They certainly wouldn't be better off not having him in the starting line-up (which I can't say for 2 out of the 7 remaining positions).

For the record, some people around here have always disliked Todd Walker. The guy comes across as a complete egomaniac. He never shuts up, pisses and moans to the media about what everyone else is doing wrong (not directly, but he sure puts a lot of innuendo in it). He never takes responsiblilty for his shortcomings and instead complains that "he gets a bad rap" because his defense blows. I have never seen one player so inept at fielding a ball hit right at him. And if I see him stand in that batters box one more time throwing a hissy fit when he hits a weak grounder or a pop-up instead of running it out...I have never seen him run hard to first. It amazes me how other players who bust their butt at every opportunity get so berated here but Walker is treated as this god. He is a good player....but hardly the almighty savior some perceive him to be.

A poster ripped Walker for his inability to turn the double play, and myself and others tore him apart.

 

That poster really, really hated Walker for some reason. It was almost pathological.
