Billy has been on the DL since June 24th. He came off his first stint on the DL to throw 2 innings in a start in a doubleheader, didn't pitch again and went back on the DL. I don't know what his injury is.

The reason you do not know anything is this:

(Unlike most all minor league managers, Zisk’s personal policy is to not release injury information - such as reasons for DL stints - to the media, according to Daytona broadcaster Bo Fulginiti.)

I'm not an ITI subscriber, so couldn't read the article. Any details on how severe the injury was, and what kind of timetable he's on?

When Guzman had his summer shoulder surgery, they originally said it wasn't too severe, and that he might be back the following spring. Wood's shouulder stuff, they hope to be able to "clean it up" after the season and still have him ready next spring, if there aren't any bad surprises. Matt morris has shoulder work done, and came back quickly and improved. Jon Connolly seemed to think his shoulder work would not necessarily interefere with his next spring training.

I'm guessing a torn labrum is worse, so Petrick's will be one of the slower recovery schedules? Just wondering.

Here's a little snippet from the article:

The MRI revealed a slight tear in Petrick's labrum, and surgery was required. Now, his season is over and Petrick won’t resume throwing until at least November, he says.

He hopes to be back on the mound pitching in live games by mid to late Spring Training of next year.

Ugh, just saw the ITI article. Petrick was one of the few Cubs pitching prospects who hadn't had major injury problems yet (going into this season). Sounds like he's been pitching hurt since spring training.

Look at who else is in Mesa, injured:

Petrick, his Daytona teammate Jason Wylie, and left-hander Jon Connolly are the newest additions to the area, joining an already packed house that includes right-handers Angel Guzman, Chadd Blasko, Rocky Cherry, and numerous others. All with the possible exception of Wylie will not pitch until 2006.

I hope Billy does return as soon as he says he does (and that it's just a slight tear of the labrum - if that makes a difference in terms of surgery and rehab time). He's an exciting prospect when healthy. What's with the sudden bout of labrum injuries? Ugh.

I don't know how severe these injuries are, but I have severly torn my lebrum in my left shoulder as well as a full thickeness rotator cuff tear and can't even attempt to throw a ball after three surgeries on it. Good thing is that I am right handed and have only had two surgeries on that one. The main difference in throwing is that I cannot throw over the top at all, but only at three-quarters. With that being said, throwing 3/4 adds much more movement to the ball than over the top so hopefully if they have to relearn to throw as I did, their pitches will have more movement.

Mucho thanks,WilliS. That doesn't sound exceptionally bad. To be able to possibly resume throwing a quickly as NOvember is sooner than real severe labrum surgeries, it seems. And to have a shoulder op in July and have even a chance to be pitching for real the following spring training is also pretty fast. Most likely, as with most of these sorts of things, we won't see him in any full-season games next year, but hopefully this will be one of the lucky ones where a surgery works and the guys comes back 100%.
