According to Bernie Miklasz of the St. louis Post Dispatch, he says he has a source who says that if Nevin approves the trade to Baltimore they would trade Mora to the card for Marquis and prospects.

I highly doubt this trade will happen, I dont see why the O's would give up a guy who can play 3rd and OF and hit that well.

Is Nevin/Marquis/prospects really better than Ponson/Mora? Doesn't make sense to me. If Mora is available though, I would hope Hendry would be going after him. Solid production(can back up 3B too) at a very reasonable contract.

I wouldn't be surprised if the Cardinals trade for a third baseman (though, I'd be shocked if the O's traded Mora, especially for Marquis). Rolen's shoulder injury is unlikely to be healed this season, though I'm sure he'll come back an try to play through it again. In fact, it's the same injury he suffered in the 2002 playoffs against Arizona, and his rotator cuff is in such bad shape there is a serious concern it'll never heal right this time. It's probably not a career ending injury, but it's likely a career altering one. If he were on any other team, it'd be kind of sad, really. But he's a Cardinal, so screw him.

Why would the Orioles trade one of their best young positional players like that? Are they seriously going to do this Mike Lowell deal and get a significant downgrade at 3B?

Also, Mora can play the OF. Ugh ugh ugh ugh ugh.

I really do not want this deal to be true.

I dont think this trade will happen either, but Mora isnt that young he is like 32 or 33 I think and if they get nevin they have another good 3rd baseman and they could trade mora for pitching. The reason I dont think it is going to work is I think that they could get a better pitcher then Marquis for Mora.

If Mora does become avaliable, he'd look great for the Cubs in left field. I'm behind on my knowledge of the Cubs farm system, so I won't attempt to make a trade offer, but I'd venture to guess he'd be cheaper than acquiring either Huff or Dunn.

Tim Krkjl;jklj;lkjl; doesn't see Mora going anywhere, and because he lives in Baltimore and hangs out mainly at Camden Yards, he ought to have some clue.

Scott (Del City, OK): Tim, Rumor has it that if Nevin accepts the trade to the O's, that the O's may send Mora to the Cards for Marquis. Your thoughts? And how likely is it that Mora will be moved? Thanks so much.

Tim Kurkjian: (3:10 PM ET ) I don't think Mora is going anywhere. He has become a well above-average defensive 3Bman and he can really hit. The Cards would love to have him, of course, but I can't see the Orioles moving Melvin.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Dave (Little Rock): Tim, love the insight you provide. I know that Jocketty has always kept his "cards" close to the vest near the deadline, but who can you realistically see the Redbirds going after to plug some holes in the OF? What are you hearing about Rolen's latest stint on the DL? Is Cardinal Nation destined for another letdown this October?

Tim Kurkjian: (3:12 PM ET ) I don't see the Cardinals making a major deal before the 31st. Their injuries are major, but so is their lead. I could see them just waiting until Sept. 1 to get people healthy. There remains, however, a big question about Scott Rolen's shoulder. Whether Rolen will be a really productive hitter at any point this year remains to be seen. That is a big source of concern, of course, but I can't see them acquiring an everyday thirdbaseman as insurance for Rolen

If they do trade Mora its gonna be for a pitcher who is capable of coming in now and pitching for them right away. They are still in the wild card race so I would doubt they want prospects.

Mora for Jerome Williams and a mid level guy?

The fact that the Cardinals may be considering replacing Rolen for the remainder of the year is kinda interesting. Smacks of a bit of panic on the Cards' part if true.

Not nearly enough. The O's want pitching with some track record of success and consistency. Marquis has nearly three years of that under his belt. We'd have to give up Maddux (no trade), or may be Rusch and Mitre. But even that's a stretch. Its realy not a good fit.

Three years of success? Correct if I wrong but wasn't Marquis not successful in Atlanta?

I stand some-what corrected: he has had two good years in a row and was solid in one other with the Braves, but had a couple of poor years in between.

That said, if he or someone like him is what Balt. wants, we really do not have it available.

This trade makes no sense at all. Nevin can't play 3rd. If the O's had to take Lowell in the Burnett deal why not then flip him to St. Louis for a bag of army men. It might cost them some money but who cares?

Carpenter for Mora sounds more reasonable

Mora is 33

Plus, wasn't he just a converted utility player? This guy just came out of nowhere a couple years ago. Kind of strange.

I was under the impression he was in his late 20s. Hm, go figure.

Nevertheless, given his offensive production and ability to play two positions the Cards have some degree of need at, given their health, this is not an acquisition I'd like to see them make.
