Went to the game in Cincy last night as a guest of a guy who works for Fox Sports Net Ohio and does the "Real Reds" pre-game show. I passed along the Dunn for CPatt, Mitre, Hill rumor and he asked Hendry about it. After Hendry stopped laughing, he told my buddy that there was absolutely no truth to the rumor with the primary reason being his reluctance to trade Rich Hill. JH said he wouldn't trade Hill for Dunn straight up and that he had more interest in Kearns than Dunn.

Sounds like the Garland (which he wasn't responsible for) and Willis (he was responsible for) trades have made him a little less willing to deal a top prospect for a so-so big leaguer. And before anyone gets on me for labeling him "so-so" I simply mean that he's got some positives (homers, walks) and some negatives (strikeouts, average, defense) and neither drastically outweigh the other.

I'm sure Jim said all that to you and your pal. "I wouldn't trade Rich Hill for Adam Dunn, and I like Austin Kearns better!" Sounds just like him.

I have an Adam Dunn update for you...

He's not a Cub, he might not be a Cub, and if the Dunn threads continue, I might go crazy.

I think the mods need to pull a "Choi for Lee" style locking on all of these until something actually happens. It can't be helping the site's bandwidth.

Agreed. I can't wait for the trade deadline, primarily to stop all these rumor threads and get back to the actual team we have on the field!

if you read my post carefully, you'll see that i relayed the information second hand. i never claimed hendry said that to me. and since i hadn't read the southtown story, it would seem that what my pal told me he said is accurate since he told it to someone else.

did i miss someone else's post on this board that is 1 person removed from a direct conversation with hendry? at least i didn't come with "my pal's uncle knows a guy who cuts jim hendry's gardner's hair and he said the cubs are getting ichiro for luis montanez!"

Lost in all the Dunn speculation is the little nugget that Kearns was recalled the same day that Hendry shows up and reportedly says that Kearns is the guy he's really interested in.

Might be purely coincidence but Kearns is more of a Hendry type player. OF course the price for Kearns might be more than Hendry is willing to pay.

Thanks!

Azumah is a playmaker.

A Wisconsin fan who likes the Bears? I'm not sure if I've ever met a Badger who hasn't been a Packer fan.

But I'm not from Wisconsin. I just went to UW. So it makes sense.

maybe JH is keeping his cards close to his chest and not telling everybody who his real targets are and who he is willing to and not willing to trade. If you were him would you tell the truth to someone random like your buddy?

You're a good man, don't let them tell you otherwise.

UK - as in University of Kentucky? If so, great. I live in Lex and work for/attend UK.

no, of course i wouldn't tell the truth to someone random. but this conversation was with a media member and off the record. as a journalism undergrad and former reporter, i can tell you that sources are usually willing to open up when you tell them "off the record". they know that a reporter is only as good as his word to sources and one eff up can ruin that.

its actually UK as in United Kingdom, moving to within a minutes walk of Wrigley Field next week though! 8)

Fair enough, but lets hope that JH was not being truthful in this case!!!
