I heard it on ESPN (I think) but they were asking former Cubs such as Clement, Alou etc.. If they wanted to stay in Chicago. Alou said the following: (not quoted)

- I wanted to stay.

- what did I do wrong?

- I was played my hardest.

I dont know where I can find the exact quote.. Sorry its not exactly clear but it sounded like he was mad at the Cubs. Also, my bad if this has already been discussed.

I don't think it is any secret that Alou wanted to come back. It's also no secret that his feelings were hurt that the Cubs didn't make any effort to contact him about keeping him around.

I also don't think there's any doubt we've missed not having him in left field.

Yeah, I think we really dropped the ball on Moises. We didn't even think of resigning him because we weren't sure about Sosa, but still, be honest and tell the guy this. Maybe he says "ok, how about a 1 year, $5 mil contract, with incentives to get me to a fair level if I repeat this season?"

Never know if you don't ask.

Seems to me if he wanted to stay and didn't want to play for Felipe, then he could have called Hendry and said I want to come back for __ dollars for __ years. It's just as simple for Alou (or his agent) to pick up the phone as it is Hendry.

True, but remember the cubs had to buy out his option for this season. I could see where it might be tough for a guy to swallow his pride and ask to come back after being handed a $2mil check NOT to play for the team.

Somehow I think Tim doesn't miss him in LF. :P

I do, though. Despite his flaws, i think he'd be better than what we have....

They couldn't sign him because they didn't know what would happen with Sosa. Sosa dealings messed up our entire off-season. If he was gone early, they would have resigned Moises.

I wouldn't mind a trade for him now, as long as we give them basically wortheless players, and take his salary. That production would more than offset his worthless defense and baserunning.

Given how his tenure ended, I doubt he'd be thrilled to come back. Plus, his numbers this year, plus the fact he's signed for 2006, mean that we'd have to give up decent prospects for him.

You dont think hed want a shot at the post season? From what I remember he was pretty well respected in the clubhouse- he was definitely a leader.

Remember that Alou put up some sub-par numbers prior to his contract year. Unless he was OK with doing a series of one-year, incentive-laced contracts, I'm happy to see him out playing somewhere else.

Ugh! If Mo came back we'd all be subjected to endless, "he's on a break posts". They were funny for about 2 minutes and then just became annoying.

No Mo no more, that's my mantra. The guy was the king of GDIP and ran the bases like a directionally challenged 6 year old. Did I mention he was terrible in the OF too?

I know his numbers would've been good.. But the dugout could not stand the smell if his hands therefore he had to go..

No really, IMO, he scared away Chip Carey/Steve Stone. I dont really care if we win the world series or not because it's not always about winning. To me its about waking up, knowing theres a Cubs game on. Knowing Chip Carey and Steve Stone will be there. Knowing you could watch baseball in peace. Just enjoying this great game with commentators you love. Sure, a World Series would be great.. But I can live without it.

On top of that, in the conference he said he "played his hardest".. yea, that'll explain the "breaks" he took and how he "doesnt care" if the Cubs lose...

why the hell would he care if the cubs lose now, he's not on our team.
