I was able to make it to the Southern League All-Star game last night. While I was somewhat disappointed that Felix Pie and Matt Murton weren't taking part in it, Casey McGehee and Buck Coats were the starting 1B and SS respectively. Both played well...the former hitting a HR and the latter had two hits.

I was most impressed by Delmon Young. He didn't play all that well last night, striking out twice and only getting one hit. However, he did place second in the HR contest preceeding the game, he showed a rocket of an arm in right field, and he is extremely fast on the bases. Has anyone noticed his numbers so far this year in AA?

.336, .385, .582, 20HR, 25SB, and 70 RBI...I think he'll end up being better than his brother and I'm just wondering how long it will take for him to make the Tampa roster? Thoughts?

He'll probably get a taste of the bigs in September. I might consider trading the Cubs entire minor leagues for him... I think he's gonna be a perennial all star in the majors.

He'll probably be up in September, like Truffle said, but I think he'll stick in the big leagues after that. He's definitely going to be better than his brother. Depending on who you talk to, he's either the best or second best prospect in the whole game (behind Seattle's Felix Hernandez).

Mike Tankersley of the Montgomery Advertiser wrote this...and he pretty much hit on the nose as to how Delmon has treated the city of Montgomery. Trust me when I say....GOOD RIDDANCE to Delmon Young, and I am glad he is out of Montgomery.

Delmon Young is gone, but he won't be forgotte, especially by local media members.

By the time the Southern League's best player got his much-deserved promotion Thursday, most in the media were at the point of being GLAD to see him go. Young has performed on the field like Barry Bonds. Unfortunately, the comparasion doesn't end there.

Young, to be blount, has been a jerk, and not just to the media. Few people are willing to talk publicly about it, but there's every indication that Young has rubbed many people in the Biscuits organization the wrong way.

In recent days, Young's behavior has been more under the microscope. Announcers for the Charter Sports Southeast, in Mobile to televise the Southern League All-Star game Wednesday night, made reference to Young wanting an appearance fee to appear in an interview. Young wasn't a part of the program.

The next day, WSFA sports director Jeff Shearer (very respected sports director, btw), confirmed Young had also demanded appearance fees of him searly in the season. Of course, WSFA wasn't bitting.

There have been other incidents, but they're mostly irrelevent now that Young is gone. Suffice to say, there is concern for Young within the Devil Rays organization---and it has nothing to do with him hitting a fastball.

Young is a super talent. Fans wanted him here, and frankly, so did the media. Perhaps one day Delmon will understand that and realize how special that bond can be between a player and his adoring pubic.

Meanwhile, it'll be an awfully difficult to follow Young's journey to the majors with any measure of enthusiasm. Come to think about it, Tampa Bay and Delmon might just be a perfect fit.

Well, he is a kid. But the media always seems to trash people. Because he said no to them, is nothing I hold against a player. Look at the Cubs last year with the media vultures. alou had a great year, but they helped run him and many others out of town. To be honest, I should state that I have NO respect for the press, I find the reporters to unfair, lazy and generally jealous that they aren't the story.

I understand that he may have been a jerk but that is pretty low to take a shot at the guy after he leaves town.

The thing is he basically has treated the Biscuits as an 2nd class organization that didn't deserve his "kind of talent." He felt he should had been promoted from A to AAA. This kid was NOT playing for his teammates, this kid is a me-first player, in the mold of a Bonds. So excuse me if I don't sing the praises of Delmon Young. Being a kid "is not an excuse", imo.

Thats kind of strange considering how well liked his older brother is. I thought I heard Gammons talking about how great of a person he was also during the futures game. I wonder if their is another incident not made public here.

My guess is he stopped signing autographs after an hour and a ton of people wrote to the paper saying what a horrible person he was.
