There is no pitcher in our minor league system I wouldn't move in the right trade, because there is no Carlos Zambrano or Mark Prior currently in our system.

Hmmm.... As I recall, neither was Carlos Zambrano a Carlos Zambrano. It wasn't until he his first full season at AAA that his numbers started to make people notice.

2000: 2-5, 3.97 ERA, 7.3 K/9

2001: 10-5, 3.88 ERA, 9.3 K/9

1) Jonny Gomes is basically Adam Dunn without the MLB track record (that's a good thing)

2) The Dodgers also have many more pitching prospects than Edwin that rate very highly within MiLB, so I think they could still out-prospect us. Their farm system is currently top 3-5 in MLB in my estimation.

I think Gomes can leadoff and play CF. At a bare minimum, he could be a stopgap solution there until Pie is ready. And, he should be somewhat cheap; Piniella sits him half the time for crying out loud.

We know about Huff. Joey Gathright is another Devil Ray that intrigues me; not as a starter, but as a 4th OF/bench guy. He's one of the fastest guys in the league. No power, but makes contact. Nice bench option. So here's your monster Tampa offer:

Mitre + Greenberg + Patterson + Hill for Gomes + Huff + Joey. Add in Murton and Pie and Dubois to the mix on our end, maybe mix in a little Austin Kearns later, and that's a nice set of appealing, young OF options for 2006.

I would love Gomes in this lineup. And if they included Wes Bankston in the trade (future RFer, since I'm not even close to sold on Harvey).

Both of them can absolutely mash, and both of them are held back by orginization depth (or just underrated - Bankston).

You forgot to mention that in 2000 Zambrano pitched in AA for 9 starts and went 3-1 with a 1.34 ERA. He won 13 games for the Lugnuts in 1999 in his first season as a starter in professional baseball.

Per ESPN 1000(Bruce Levine) Dunn to be traded in the next few days. There has been speculation that the Astros have a package ready to trade for Dunn. Boy, will I be pissed if that happens.

If that happens that'll be twice in 2 years that the Astros have shown a committment to winning and dealt prospects for an impact bat.

That. Would. Suck.

Maybe instead of holding onto our prospects until their value plummets, we should be a bit more aggressive. If The Astros are a possibility, that means the Reds are willing to deal within the division.

I woudl give them two top prospects for him. He would make a huge difference. If we make a move I would like to see Dunn or Huff. Nothing else really out there IMO.

Oh no. The Astros better not get him.

Offer 'em a better deal JH, if you can.

The Astros likely would put Dunn at first. I have a source in Houston; I'll see what I can find out.

Can Dunn even play 1B?

Go Vance! Find things out for us!

It matters to no one that he leads the league in strikeouts?

Not nearly as much as his .384 OBP and .550 SLG matter.
