From Cubs.com

Corey Patterson is expected to be back in the Cubs lineup on Tuesday after getting two days off to regroup. But don't expect Patterson back in the leadoff spot.

"Probably not," Cubs manager Dusty Baker said.

Hairston led off Monday for the second straight day. Who will lead off for the Cubs on Tuesday?

"You've got to wait and see," Baker said.

Todd Walker will likely stay in the No. 2 spot, Baker said.

"I need some speed at the top, and that's the only problem with 'Walk,' is speed," Baker said. "Right now, I'd move 'Walk' back to second because [Todd Hollandsworth] is swinging better and I can put 'Holly' behind Aramis [Ramirez].

Any guesses to what the lineup will be?

Call it crazy but...

Lee

Walker

Aramis

Burnitz

Hollansworth

Barrett

Patterson

Perez

Maddux

In that same Trib article, it said that they wouldnt have Hairston play LF because it was too hard of a position to learn or something.

I'm sorry, but if he can play CF, he can handle LF...plus he's played it before, I believe...

I dont think anyone can quite grasp the LF area at wrigley without a lot of experience, and that includes anyone currently on the team, even Hollandsworth. The wind is too unpredictable.

It is really unfair to assume anything about a player, Baker should know this.

My guess:

This is closest to mine.

It would probably be best not have a LFer at all rather than subject someone to the rigors of adapting to a position they haven't played thousands of times before.

I think it's Barrett for Maddux again now that interleague is over; I'll assume Blanco will be catching Prior again tomorrow.

Your sarcasm is appreciated, but you missed my point. My point was that neither Hairston or Hollandsworth can really play an effective LF at Wrigley, so it doesnt make any sense for Baker to assume Hairston would be any worse in LF than CF.

The sarcasm wasn't directed at you. I understand the point.

There is no reason why Hairston can't play LF. He should be av everyday LF/CF at this point. The notion of Dusty playing certain players (Holly and Neifi) for their defense is ridiculous when we continue to lose 4-2, 4-0, etc.

Baker is in a tough spot here with Hairston/Hollandsworth/Walker.

Hairston has been on base 6 of 10 PA since he was put in the leadoff spot. His OBP is up to .367 on the season.

Hollandsworth is 8-20 with 5 RBI in his last 6 games.

Walker is 2-19 in his last 5 games.

Perez is 5-37 with a walk in his last 10 games.

All indications are that Walker/Patterson will be in the lineup leaving Hairston without a position. Therefore, we'll probably see this gem since the Cubs need "speed" at the top of the lineup:

Perez

Walker

Lee

Burnitz

Ramirez

Hollandsworth

Patterson

Barrett/Blanco

I would like to see Cedeno get a shot at leadoff tonight, but I think that's doubtful as Dusty seems to have no issues with Perez's current case of easyoutism.

I would love to see the lineup being:

Cedeno

Walker

Lee

Ramirez

Burnitz

Holla

Barrett

Patterson

Maddux

I would hope the failed bunt attempt by the never- can- do- anything wrong veteran, Neifi Perez, has finally ticked Baker off and he can give up on the guy as an everyday player.

Yes, I'd love to play Hairston more, but since Holla has finally decided to hit, we need his bat.

I'd like to see that lineup too. However, maybe we'll see this instead:

Hollandsworth

Walker

Lee

Burnitz

Ramirez

Barrett

Patterson

Perez

No kidding. That's the same thing I said to my girlfriend, and she said "Are you really obsessive to the Cubs, and do you really think you could manage the team better?" My answers to both questions was yes, and she didn't like it a bit.

You need a girlfriend who's a Cubs fan!

I'm feeling stupid today, so I say Dusty is going to surprise everyone and have Cedeno leading off today (In reality, I'm sure this won't happen):

Cedeno

Walker

Lee

Burnitz

Ramirez

Hollandsworth

Barrett

Patterson

Maddux

However, I didn't ever actually here Dusty say Patterson would definately be in the lineup today, so I wouldn't be shocked if he sticks with Hairston for at least one more game in CF (and leading off). Unfortunately, my gut tells me that Perez will be leading off tonight.

When I was on my way to the game weds (the last game we won...) I was having a discussion with my friends dad and I expressed my hatred for baker and his stupidity. He basically asked me the same thing, "do you really think you could do any better? The man has been to the world series." I then went into a half hour list of everything he's done that was totally stupid. I think he got the point.

He probably got pretty bored too....I would have. I think a 3 year old picking random people from our dugout could form a better 1-2 combo at the top than Corey/Neifi.

That's my guess too.

LF at Wrigley can be a challenge, but so can CF, what with being careful with the wall. I'd rather have Hairston in LF than Hollandsworth or Dubois.

If LF is too hard for Hairston to learn than I guess it's safe to say that he won't get any starts at SS as some have suggested recently. Funny, I thought LF was supposed to be the 2nd easiest position to play after 1st base. Hairston's speed in LF would probably make up for his lack of experience.
