2026 Chicago Cubs MLB Draft Day 2 Thread

The more I think about after reading as much as I could about the guys they drafted, the more I like this draft, even if doesn’t produce depth. Especially the hitters. Their history is taking safer college bats with hit tool led skills. This year they went gas on power. The floor is there for this team, they need some high ceiling.  But the risk is there and I’m ok with that. 

its similar with pitchers but in a different direction. They went spin and velocity. I’m not sure I love the Townsend pick, but it was solid for where they picked.
 

On paper, they get a big A+ for effort and a sold B overall.

I kinda get it; Wiggins has an injury history and there are some open questions about whether he can stick as a full-time starter.

The problem is...Townsend also has an injury history and open questions about whether he can stick as a full-time starter.

That list is quintessential Shiny New Toy Syndrome.

The reliever risk for Wiggins is pretty high (admittedly, he could be a top-5 MLB reliever).

I consider the 2 in the same tier so really don’t care who you rank higher because I think we’ll have a lot of answers to both their futures by this time next year.

Yeah, I get the comparison but proximity to MLB would be a significant tie breaker for me and as OO said, seems like shiny new toy syndrome won out here instead.
