My thoughts exactly -  Shaw was practically drawn and quartered for an almost identical situation earlier in the year and the runner in that case was safe!!  Seiya seemed to have no clued the ball was going to be there in time.  Now if Nico was signaling and Seiya just missed or ignored it my apologies.  But I do think JD or someone wondered aloud if Nico had done it in real time on the broadcast.

Hoerner's reaction to the play is tough read. It could have either been "I told you to slide and you didn't!" or "I should've told you to slide but didn't"

Didn’t look like Hoerner gave Seiya any guidance. The fact that Seiya even slowed down suggests he thought there wasn’t even a play on him. I know one thing for sure, if Hoerner did signal him he wasn’t doing so with any urgency. I would have expected to see him behind home plate frantically signaling Seiya to slide. And that definitely did not happen.

That was the most gratifying win of the season last night.  Great step up in pitching.  Now let’s do it again and shock everyone.

If the Cubs go into the all star break 10+ games over .500, they should be proud.

And very much a contender.

They need Brown healthy and playing as good as he has been, and maybe add 1 more arm, for me to get there.  But if they go into the all star break 10 over .500, they have firmly established themselves as buyers.  Despite all the injuries.  That's massive.

Best case scenario is Rolison goes 2 innings and Wick goes 4, no worse then being down 1-2 runs, and hope our bullpen is better than theirs the last 3 innings and the bats can score a few.  🤷🤷

But down 1 or 2 I am still going Ferguson, Thornton, whatever other low leverage pitcher they have rather than Webb, Theilbar.  If they are to stay in a game down a few runs it will have to be with their 12th and 13th pitcher pitching.
