IMO, Sammy hasn't been the same since he was beaned. I don't know, but it seems like since then he has stood further away from the plate and no longer strides toward the ball.

Maybe its my own interpretation as I'm still a Sammy fan.

BTW, I read nothing in that article that would indicate Sammy was being an ass in Baltimore?

I agree! I remember right after it happened and he was very timid up there. And it did seem like he backed off the plate.

Agree on the first part - he became a lot more susceptible to outside pitches. He lost the ability to drive those to the right side of the field.

Agree on the second part too. I think he can still put it together and be a feared slugger in the AL.

Was it that long ago that Sosa actually took the advice of a hitting coach and worked on his swing? I remember hearing all about it during the games.

I just find it strange that he had so much success when he started taking the ball to all fields and laying off the low-outside slider...............but now he won't listen, or ask for advice to get back on his game.

It just doesn't make alot of sense to me.

Looks like you and Sammy have something in common then.

A few years ago, a big deal was made that Sammy's hands were to high in his batting stance. And he lowered them more toward his waist and was crushing the ball to all fields. I noticed lasy year and this year as well, his hands are back to being high, up near his chest. Not as high as when he was a young player, but higher thean in the glory days. Take a look. I wonder if that is slowing his bat speed.

I also agree that he's not as agressive at the plate since the beaning. He can't reach the outside corner, and gets folled way too often on the off-speed pitch low and away.
