The following is a list of guys that might be available for the right price. Some of them are at about five years of service on small market clubs (Wells), so although I might be dreaming, anything is possible. Feel free to add your own candidates, and feel free to shoot mine down.

M. Kotsay - 8

A. Huff - 7

A. Kearns - 7

M. Alou - 5

P. Feliz - 4

B. Kielty - 4

D. Delucci - 5

R. Ibanez - 4

V. Wells - 2

R. Winn - 4

M. Lawton - 7

C. Lee - 2

B. Clark -5

J. Encarnacion - 8

E. Brown - 6

*Adam Dunn - 3

*Andruw Jones - 3

*Preston Wilson - 10 (ick)

The number to the right of each players name is my guess on a scale of 1-10 on the availability how "gettable" that player is for Jim Hendry.

How about Andruw Jones?? Or is he having too big of year?? I'd throw CPatt, Rusch and a prospect at Atl. They have two starters w/ ERA's over 4.65.

Add him w/ Dunn and Dusty is forced to bat Walker 1st or 2nd...

Dusty lineup:

Neifi

Walker

Lee

Dunn

Jones

ARam

Burnitz

Barrett

The problem with dealing with Atlanta is that we're competing for the Wild Card with them. They're not going to want to help us, and we shouldn't be looking to improve any of their weaknesses. Just my opinion.

Considering that the Cubs have been down the Alou road before, i highly doubt that Hendry would go and give up prospects for him. Certainly considering all the rumors i would say that there is a much greater chance to get Dunn then there is Alou, despite the division rival problem.

And there is probably 0 chance that the Braves trade Jones, he is carrying there team as of late and they have lots of their pitchers on the DL. They need bullpen help, but there is no way they trade Jones for that.

I'd still prefer Dunn, Huff or Sheffield (well, up until yesterday with that tirade about contracts and trading).

Just no Preston Wilson, please!

True.

How is Atlanta doing financially?? Jones has a pretty hefty contract and they've been cutting back the last several years.

The Cubs could give them a little bullpen help, a starter, and a replacement for Jones w/ similar upside, who's alot cheaper.

Patterson? I wouldn't do it if i was the Braves. Pie? I wouldn't do it if i was the Cubs.

Andruw Jones has that team on his back right now - we ain't getting him. No one is.

Eggg-xactly. No way that happens. Like going to, say, a Twins forum and seeing them post about getting Derek Lee.

Mench comes up a bit on the board. May be unlikely, but Texas does need some arms.

I think Andruw is almost the player who is least likely to be traded right now. If the Braves traded him, they could kiss their playoff chances goodbye, as he is the Atlanta offense at this point. Now if the Braves slump for a month, things could change.

Aren't the Braves currently leading the WC? Jones isn't going anywhere.

Not only are they currently leading the WC, but Jones has hit 12 homers in approximately his last 20 games

like most of you, I have been thinking alot lately about who we should and should not get. there's a couple ways you can go. you can go get a guy you hope will be around long term, or you can get a guy to plug a hole you have.

if Hendry chooses to do the former, Dunn. no doubt about it.

if Hendry chooses to do the latter, I still look to the Reds. the Cubs need is a leadoff hitter, and the only realistic place to plug in that leadoff hitter is left field. so we need good OBP, good speed, and the ability to play the least important defensive position on the field. some say, and I agree, that Hairston should be put out there. but that's not going to happen, as may be the case with the guy I have in mind. but to carry on, it would be ideal that such a guy would come fairly cheaply in terms of prospects, is cheap in terms of salary, and can do something else for the Cubs should left field be filled with a more permanent solution.

so without further ado, I present a guy that should definitely be considered, a guy who many of us have discussed acquiring in the past...

Mr. Ryan Freel ladies and gentleman

he just went on the DL. any idea the extent of his injury?

edit: I just saw his name being floated in the other thread as part of a package, but I see no reason why he shouldn't be considered a potential trade target all on his own.

I love Freel - have him on 2 fantasy teams. He has an inflamation at the base of his 2nd toe - not sure when he will be back.

There is another thread on this guy, but call me crazy, I still think Lew Ford is a great option. He will plug the hole now and can contribute in the future.

He needs to learn to find other spots for the needle.

I'm looking at Kenny Lofton's stats and trying to figure out how the guy is doing it. I would love to have a .400+ OBP in the leadoff spot.

Anybody know his BABIP right now?

I can't believe his still hitting as well as he is.

Brian Giles??

SD has been discussing a move w/ Seattle where they'd get Moyer and Boone. Apparently, they'd deal off Burroughs. I think Loretta will be back by late July, but I'm guessing they want insurance in Boone. Also, they need another starter.

Giles could be gone next year, since he's a free agent, and Nady's .OPS isn't far behind Giles. Giles is .913. Nady's is .857. The Cubs could deal SD Rusch, Walker and Patterson. Patterson probably won't start over Roberts, but gives them a CF for the future. Yes, yes Giles will be a fa, but I'm betting the Cubs can give him a pretty enticing offer.

Dusty's lineup w/ Dunn... :D

2b. Hairston

ss. Neifi

cf. Giles

1b. Lee

lf. Dunn

3b. Ramirez

rf. Burnitz

c. Barrett

Carlos Lee would be fine with me in left. As much as I can't stand the guy (mostly because of the uniforms he has worn), he sure does hit well in Wrigley.
