I think it all depends on if Hill can make it in the majors as a starter, something the Cubs seemed to have questioned? His fastball doesn't scare people, and righthand hitters can sit on the curve. If he becomes a lefty specialist, then he has more value to bring in an OF.

Huff could be Aramis-like at this point. Has shown great promise but is underachieving on a poor team. If JH could swing a deal that is Aramis/Lofton-like for him, I wouldn't be opposed.

One of the biggest myths I've seen repeated on this board is that Aramis wasn't playing well when he was traded to the Cubs. He actually had a better average and OBP with the Pirates in 2003 before he was traded.

There are some guys who do well when traded midseason (Orlando Cabrera last year, for example), but it's not as if coming to Chicago kickstarted Aramis's season. He was already playing well.

More often than not when a guy is traded midseason, he plays at the same level or worse for his new team.

After having a very good 2001, Aramis had a down 2002. He was bad for the entire year. I hope Huff can turn things around midseason if the Cubs do acquire him, but I wouldn't be surprised if he continues to struggle.

I don't know what Huff's excuse is, but Aramis was playing injured for most of 2002. In 2003, Aramis was doing okay offensively, but he was the only decent bat in their line up since it was Giles that spent a good portion of the first half of that season on the DL. Therefore, they didn't give Aramis the best of pitches to hit.

The Cubs aren't interested in a Hill + Dubois for Huff swap?!

Crap, I'd do that in a heartbeat. Hill is nice, but definitely expendable (didn't we draft about 90 LHP with heat?).

But no one with that hammer.

That said, Hill should be traded if the right deal comes along. I am still a little wary that things "just clicked" for him. I am a big fan of his though.

Dubois and Hill for Huff? And the Cubs aren't interested? Well, I could understand if they tried to cash in on Huff's struggles a little more and wriggle the Devil Rays out of Hill and onto a slightly lesser pitcher, but come on, that's a pretty fair offer by the Devil Rays, and the Cubs should be at least thinking about it. Because if the Cubs can be confident that Huff's problems are temporary (and that's the only problem, I'm not sure they are), there's no way they should pass up on putting him in left field.

Hill can at least be a great LOOGY and to me that's something. It takes all kinda parts to make a good pen and that's not an easy one to find, and he'd be cheap for years. I'd be real wary of trading him. He could even turn out to be a darn good starter - he could wind up being that lefty starter Hendry's been jonesing for for years. He sure is pitching well this year - did real well in his last start at AAA too.

I love the Creature, but I could live with a Dubois + Hill for Huff. Huff isn't my favorite midseason target, but he's better than what we have.

This deal actually makes sense. The Devil Rays get another young hitter and a pitcher with a lot of promise that has logged some major league innings.

This rumor may have some legs. :-k

Steve stone said Hill had a major leage Curve ball, so I'd try to hold onto him. I like Dubois so I'd hate to trade him, but I would since Dusty isn't going to use him. I'd rather give him a month and see what he can do, but I know that won't happen.

id like to see it expand into a deal including baez, maybe add wellemeyer or leicester?

Sorry, I can't go alone with this. Dempster is doing just fine and I'd rather keep Welly and Leicester. I just don't see Baez as an improvment.
