Walked in his first PA

Announcers never said a word about him, don't think they even mentioned he was hitting.  Just babbled about nothing, Hope comes up, they start talking about him as he K's.

Brown didn't start, presumably he'll go tomorrow?  Little did the opener thing and struggled horribly with control (boo!)

Lumpuy is on base a couple more times tonight.  He's also slowed way down on the strikeouts the last two weeks or so.  Fingers crossed this is a breakout not just a hot streak.

Gallagher's got a no hitter through 4

Dang, Little has lost his control this season. I think he has more walks than innings- 🥹

Gallagher 1-hitter through 6- nice... He scuffled a bit the past few games. Good to see him do well before the break.

It's too bad because until that meltdown he exhibited a definite improvement in control:

In his last ten games he's had 15BB in 13.2 innings.

I had obviously noticed the uptick in Jonny Long's production but not in his contact.  He's got his K rate at 20% and his contact rates back that up.

Gun to my head I think he ends up the best hitter out of the Iowa guys.

Good catch on Long. Dive into the batted ball and statcast data suggests that it's an improvement on in-zone contact%. His o-swing tends to have peaks and valleys, and his swing% seems consistent, but Z-contact% has been on an upwards trend (coupled with a downward trend in overall whiff%) for about 150 PA's.
