April 5- Macias and Perez get ABs over Hairston and Dubois. Neifi Perez pinch hits with the game on the line and the Cubs down a run. The team's lone power threat off the bench sits and watches.

How do you make this a sticky?

Ok. Dubois .214 as a pinch hitter in his career in 16 plate appearances. Hairston Jr. .000 in 6. Granted not a whole lot of chances in their careers, but nothing says they can effectively pinch hit. Playing every day is different then being a good bench player. Macias .250 and Perez .306 in a combined over 200 at bats.

Can we sticky this in the Fantasy Baseball section? Or in Rants as just more whining?

We needed an XBH in that situation - at least before the Lee steal. He simply has to bring Dubois in to hit. The odds of a single doing us any good were very small.

!6 and 6 plate appearances...??!? You've got to be kidding me! I think the body of their work both indicate that either Hairston or Dubois would have been better than Macias and Perez.

It's bad when I knew Neifi would be the pinch hitter before he was announced. It's bad when you know the exact situations in which your manager is going to make bad mistakes. Just a stupid decision by Dusty. The lefty/righty matchups don't mean squat if it means the lefty is going to be Niefi Freakin Perez. You have to go with Dubois in that situation. The only true RBI guy on the bench has to sit and watch Niefi slap the ball. Complete joke.

Big sample sizes you have there. Really makes your case.

Last year I stuck up for Dusty because it was his 2nd season and I always give a manager a couple years' grace period.

This year he gets no slack from me whatsoever. It's win, or leave town. If he's going to pinch hit the troll with quality hitters on the bench and the game on the line, maybe it's time to send him back to San Francisco.

That is the most ridiculous sample size I've ever seen.

Dubois hit a PH homerun in the spring.

I am officially a Dusty Buster.

Is this a BandWGN?

It's a name ZZ uses for those who oppose Dusty.

I've tried to defend him at times and have normally been on the fence with him, but ugh.

Well ok, I will be like ZZ i guess. I have never understood the Dusty bashers here. Its not like he hasn't managed teh Cubs to victories. Quick name the last manager to lead the Cubs to back 2 back winning seasons.

Besides its a bit early to start up the "fire Dusty" "Win or leave" "In Dusty we no Trusty" stuff. Can't we enjoy baseball for awhile its its pure state. The most important key to this game is that the Cubs made it close and had opportunities. Wasn't the main worry about our offense? Didn't seem too bad throught the 1st 2 games.

As far as the pinch hitter choices, Macias hit in the 7th to not burn a PH in a useless AB. How would it have been to have Dubois or Hairston get a single there and get stranded? Would that have been a good move? As for Nefi, has anyone looked at the matchups? What has Hairston done against Lyon? To me, to jump all over the situation in the 2nd game of the year is a bit premature.

Quick, name the last Cubs team to have that much talent in back-to-back season. Probably have to go back to pre-Hiroshima.

Because Dusty hasn't made idiotic moves the past two season with the Cubs and many more while with the Giants? For me, this is the final straw. I will no longer defend Dusty if I think he gets too much abuse on this board (which I have done in the past).

How would it have looked if either one of them hit a HR? If we're wasting PHs, why not keep Remmy in the game and extend him a second inning.

And what if he didn't get stranded? Do two-out rallies never happen?

Hairston has gone 2 for 6 against Lyon. With two doubles. Neifi has never faced him. Don't believe me? See for yourself.

When a team is losing, is there such a thing as a useless AB?

I'm starting to think Dusty talks to his toothpicks.

And when ZZ reads my re-cap, I'll officially be a Dusty Buster as well.

I've been a frusty-rated with Dusty since the 2003 NLCS

I've always been on the fence with Dusty. Tonight was the final straw for me as well.

I was upset when Macias pinch hit....but letting Perez hit with the game on the line and Dubois and Hairston on the bench was inexcusable.

I was surprised that his horrible managing in the 2003 NLCS didn't throw me over the top.

Bringing in Guthrie because he'd rather face Lowell than Lenny Freaking Harris in Game 1.

Extending Prior in Game 2, amidst a blowout.

Extending Prior in Game 6. Not have Farnsworth ready earlier.

Not willing to use Clement in Game 7.

That's a perfect sample size to give Hairston the shot at pinch-hitting in that situation. I mean, come on, he's batting .333 against the guy. :D

So what if he's batting .000 as a pinch hitter.

Ah, Game 1 of the NLCS. Nothing like driving 11 hours with your wife for your first Cub game and watching Lowell go yard in extras to seal it. It's not like balls were soaring out of the park that night, how could Dusty have known?
