Counsell may have just not seen eye to eye with these coaches philosophically.  He inherited Napoli.  Or maybe the coaches themselves wanted a change.  We don't know, it doesn't matter.

The last sentence was spot on. It doesn’t matter.

coaching is a much more dynamic move towards winning games than turning over FO

Considering that the FO controls the level of talent, I really couldn't disagree with that more.  Hoyer/Hawkins want you to believe that they did a great job but the players and coaches failed.  Have you bought into that?

Marlins fired their entire coaching staff

They probably wanted media attention!

Even if I believed FOs have total control of talent acquisition despite multiple levels of caps in the sport now, all FOs are full of Hoyers and Hawkins. I liken a FO overhaul to hiring more cops and soldiers: they aaalllll represent the owners’ interests and are here to protect the wealth. They all think the same, have the same ideas, go to the same schools, and dream of landing a situation like the Cubs where half decade rebuilds have taken over for “wait ‘til next year” as The Right Way and payroll age and efficiency is an even higher priority than winning

Fair enough, I see where you're coming from and generally agree.  At the risk of being overly argumentative,  I'll say that there are differences and our current talent pickers are surely tipping the scales on the safe side.

Anyway, I agree with your main point that coaching can make a pretty big difference.  Some of these guys act like everything is always on autopilot which couldn't be further from the truth.  There is danger in leaning too far into this truth, however, and that is part of the problem we're facing.  H/H wants us to believe that we can fill the roster with middling talent and coach them into superstars.  This is not only false, but an intentional lie.

And you got this take by the Cubs letting go of some coaches? Can’t it be the contracts were up and Counsell wants to bring some of his own guys in? I have never heard the FO say these guys did anything wrong and now that they are gone we can put better coaches on the staff. That this was the missing piece they were looking for. Teams change coaches often. It really isn’t a big deal.

Coming in a little hot, eh?

1. That's not how I got that take.  It's just normal common sense, really.

2. Yeah, Counsell wants his own coaches.  I don't know that anybody would ever argue against that.

3. None of this is a big deal.

Coming in hot? No. Sorry if it sounded that way. I actually think we agree. Changing coaches is no big deal. Maybe I misread your response.

Cubs parting ways with Willie Harris. Based on that, can probably take them out of the starting pitching market.

😀Yep. They are clearly not going to do anything except blame last year on the coaches they got rid of. It is official.
