This reminds me of those future lineups  baseball America used to have in their prospect handbook, and they would always be wrong

Hey, I'm still expecting great things from Bobby Hill and David Kelton. Just you wait and see. 😃

Backing a pitching staff that features Andy Sisco, Angel Guzman, Juan Cruz, Jae Kuk Ryu, Luke Hagerty, Chadd Blasko, Sean Gallagher, Reynel Pinto, Bobby Brownlie….

AfaIct Jeremy Blevins had the longest MLB career from that much ballyhooed group of early 2000s arms…That group of hard throwers is the last time the Cubs even seemed potentially ahead of the curve

God I was a massive Sean Gallagher fan at the time. I thought he was a future frontline starter at the time lol

Riley Thompson pitched well in April and September - will it be enough for him to get an MiFA offer next year from the Cubs?

LHRP Blake Weiman who signed for $3K in 2018 out of UCS Upstate. and RHRP Blake Whitney who signed for $150 K in 2017  are two others who will be MiFA at the end of the year.  Both are old for AA and spent nearly the entire year there despite pitching well.

I was a big Riley Thompson guy, but I feel like the fact that he was pretty bad in relief is a sign it's safe to move on.  Like if they want to keep him around as a warm body because of the familiarity that's fine, but he's not a priority roster add at this point.

It's weird because he's been tremendous as a starter this year.

I hadn't realized how stark the contrast is: 56/28 K/W in 71.2 IP with a 0.246 BAA in 15 starts and 43/20 K/W in 35.2 IP with a 0.358 BAA as a reliever.  By month 2,0,5,3,1,4 starts and 6,8,1,1,3,0 relief appearances
