I hope we don't get Dunn. He's just another hacker and that is something we don't need. His walks don't come from having a good eye, it comes from pitchers pitching around him. One thing you won't hear announcers say is, "Dunn with a good eye takes ball four." He'll strike out a ton and hit a bunch of solo shots. We're already doing that without him.

If that's really the case, wouldn't Jason Bay theoretically have a freakish OBP too? Or, say, Aubrey Huff? The #1 slugger on crappy teams aren't putting up the OBP numbers and showing the patience Dunn is. I think you're slighting him. I'd expect Dunn's OBP to remain consistently high as a Cub.

And if Dunn hits a bunch of solo shots, well, that's the Cubs' fault for not getting on base ahead of him.

Or him not coming thru with runners on. Yes! Dunn dig!

What is it about his .950 OPS with runners on last year that makes you think he doesn't come through with runners on?

I figured stats wouldn't back me up. I didn't check. I just wanted to get in a "Dunn dig!"

Most of that OPS with runners on comes from OBP anyway, since he hits SIXTH in that freaking line up. What a waste of a talent.

Two homers for Dunn today.

Temporarily ties him for the MLB lead, until DLee hits three tonight.

I'm not sure what secondary average (SECA) means, but Adam Dunn has a huge lead in the NL in that category with a .560. (Abreu is in 2nd with .502).

(SECA probably measures how often you strike out and how much you suck when you need a sac fly)

Secondary average is the degree to which batting average over or under rates you. It takes into account things like walks and power. What seperates it from OPS is that is does not include BA within it, and the MLB average is the same as for BA. Obviously, the deviation is much greater (as shown by Dunn's .560).

LEN IS OFFICIALLY A BIG ADAM DUNN FAN

len praised the dunn during the broadcast today!

I heard that, my heart skipped a beat.

Adam Dunn had a ninth-inning sacrifice fly, his first since July 22, 2003, against Milwaukee, a string of 1,086 plate appearances and 66 opportunities with a runnner on third and less than two outs.

Dunn hits sace flies all the time. They just happen to go out of the park, This is a no branier if we can get him, get him. I will help pack Sergio and Todd's bags.

I just watched the footage on mlb.tv, and as Dunn was going in the dugout he took off his helmet and did a mock-curtain call! It was great.

That is one god-awful statistic. But hey, a K is always the same as every other out eh?

So would you think more of Dunn if his 19 hits the past 3 seasons with a runner on 3rd less than 2 outs were actually just routine flyballs to center-field? Would he be more valuable if instead of having 6 HRs in this situation, those homeruns stayed in the park instead of leaving?

I know you're thinking Dunn must be a horrible player with a runner on 3rd less than 2 outs because of his lack of sacrifice flies, but once again, the stats show that Dunn is awesome.

.268/.433/.620 and he has 57 RBI in 71 ABs.

but yeah i agree since dunn drove in runs by slugging the ball instead of hitting flyouts he sucks and is overrated

Good job Rocket. I was just going to get those stats but got sidetracked by a crying child.

He has had 95 PA over the last three years with a runner on third and less than 2 outs. In those 95 PA, he's had 19 hits, 24 walks, and six homeruns. He's K'd only 25 times in that situation. As Rocket has posted, that equals a 268 BA, 433 OBP, and 620 SLG for a remarkable 1053 OPS in that situation. It helps to know the numbers before making ridiculous statements. But hey, why let facts get in the way of bashing a great player?
