It's crazy to think that not even 2 years ago, many of the Cubs/Sox storylines were centered around their star shortstops - Baez and Anderson.  Now they are both 30, both bad, and both gone.

I really don't get what the White Sox are doing. Given their status as a franchise, may as well take a flyer on Anderson in hopes of a rebound and July trade.

I assume Reinsdorf isn't going to permit a payroll as high as the last couple years for a team with minimal contending hopes, so flushing marginal value guys on higher salaries keeps them from needing to make deeper cuts that hurt more simply for payroll reasons.

I'm of the opinion they should strongly consider blowing it up entirely so payroll wouldn't be an issue anyway.

In most cases, I think tanking is at best a middling decision but in the case of the White Sox, I don't really see an alternative. They won't spend their way out of their recent bad decisions and their farm sure as hell isn't going to save them.

I still find it funny. They thought they were going to be dynasty team and instead they made the playoffs once, and promptly lost in the division series.

Yeah, horsefeathers those guys. 5 years ago I was genuinely worried about how good their future was looking and it’s amounted to nothing.
 

But I still can’t laugh at them more than I can the Mets. Here is a club that spends hundreds of millions of dollars to improve a 101 win squad and promptly wins 75 games. You couldn’t write a better script. 😂
