Creating a hypothetical world where the Cubs only target/are willing to pay for sub 1 fWAR guys, and then getting upset when those guys are signed by other teams, is certainly a way to do things around here.

I really don’t think anyone is “upset”. Honestly, you seem the most angry tonight. The rest of us are bored and mocking the disappointing offseason we’ve had thus far. I mean, I said “two year deals are saved for Tucker Barnhart” when we signed Dansby for 7 last year. Some of this you have to take as tongue in cheek.

I'm honestly not really sure, I've been sitting on that since I clipped it from a daily C&H feed and waiting for a time to use it.

But really, taking every bit of news as an outlet to bemoan a caricature of how you think the team is operating (but the especially ridiculous parts are for giggles!) makes for a pretty tedious read day after day

I mean, it’s a public forum for the cubs. They’ve done nothing with their offseason yet and I think (finally) people are starting to see Jed might be a bit of a problem as opposed to just Ricketts…not really sure what else you’d have people talk about. There’s still plenty of offseason to go, but this is about as mediocre a start as we could have when there is a division there for the taking if we would just attempt to grab it.

maybe consider taking a break and check on the cubs in a month or two if every little bit of news is going to enrage you

what's funny is that this place has always been as negative about the cubs as anybody, but some of you keep forcing us to defend them

There is some type of dramatic pill going through this place tonight. I don’t see anyone acting enraged. Most people have been very civil. The strange part is some of you are complaining about people complaining. Have you no clue how ridiculous that is?

The way a few of you seem to be grasping at the idea that people are in full on rage mode so you can respond with your own (apparently completely appropriate) anger is irony at its finest.

this thread is full of reactionary takes and people pissing about every single player that signs somewhere. it's the same low quality stuff over and over

Well thank god we have you here to dispense your anger over our outrage. That’s not redundant at all. That’s not cluttering up the threads at all.

Meanwhile, damn the rest of us for voicing our displeasure with the CUBS offseason on a CUBS forum. I should absolutely find a more obscure place to discuss the team.

This is maddening we need a signing or a trade so we can whine about paying too much $ or sending 5 out of the top 10 munchkins for good pitching.

bad takes on nsbb will continue to get called out. I've had a ton of them myself, and I'm better off for this site not sanctioning my buffoonery

I don’t think people being openly dissatisfied with the offseason as it stands is “buffoonery”. Again, there’s still plenty of time left. But 6 weeks ago we were talking about Ohtani as plan A, with Soto/Yamamoto as plan B.

We were talking about trading for Pete Alonso. Tyler Glasnow seemed like a given. Now, where are we? We missed on Ohtani, deemed Soto too pricey. Don’t appear to have even had a meeting with Yamamoto because he was also too pricey. Alonso seems to have been pulled off the trading block and we couldn’t even acquire Tyler Glasnow with the “extraordinarily” deep farm we’ve been hearing about for two years.

We don’t want to do mega deals. We don’t want to trade from the farm, and it appears we’re waiting to see if freaking Matt Chapman gets cheap enough to be our marquee acquisition for the year. Sorry, but it’s not “buffoonery” to find this offseason to be alarming as it stands.

we've done this a million times, but I'll do it one last time. you have every right to be mad at the cubs. we all are. the ricketts suck. jed is operating like a small market gm. the cubs are a disgrace in many ways. nobody is defending any of that. the annoying stuff is the reactionary nonsense and the pouty assumption that nothing will happen this offseason.

for example, when a japanese reliever signs for pennies, the logical reaction would be "wow, teams must not think he's good", not "wow, the padres schooled everyone, jed must be asleep still lolllll".

but I'll bow out of this thread again

The sad thing is the reaction tonight was so blown out of proportion I don’t even know what I’m defending. A few posters made some snide remarks. Yet, for some of you, these remarks seemed to have rocked you to your core. It’s a discussion board. Yet it feels like some of you are campaigning to have no discussion. Would it be better if there was no traffic and we just let the site gather dust?

you just gonna keep complaining about civility or whatever every time you get called out on a bad take? the "geez guys, don't get all upset over little old me" thing isn't working

Im just curious, you said you had learned from your previous “buffoonery”. Any plans for it to stop being apart of your daily life? Second suggestion, do you think you could stop being a complete moron even just for the night? Start small and build from there.

I love how you're pretending to be above it all and nonplussed about it, then you bust out this post

I haven’t pretended anything. I attempted to be civil with you, you couldn’t manage it. That’s the fault of your parents or upbringing. Don’t blame me for it.

I think I've been pretty civil. i've been criticizing your behavior. meanwhile you're calling me a moron and talking about my parents and stuff haha. it's quite a leap

You haven’t been civil at all. Look at your earlier posts compared to mine. You accused me of pretending to be civil and seemed to imply I was essentially playing dumb. You’ve told me I have bad takes when it’s a difference of opinion and nothing more. I opted to forgo home-field advantage and go play in the mud with you (where you’re comfortable) and now you’re crying foul on that too. You’ve now done exactly what you accused me of doing earlier and are pandering to anyone else reading as though you’re the victim, when in actuality, you sir, are a juvenile brat that is too thin-skinned to even handle people complaining about a baseball team you have no affiliation with. Why I thought you could handle an argument is beyond me.

The key is trading them for a significant player before they lose their trade value.  The Cubs seem to be good at waiting too long and then the prospect is worthless.  I think PCA could be a perfect example of that.  If he struggles his value goes from the highest on the team to a throw in on a minor deal.  Sign Bellinger and trade PCA for a young, controlled SP..

You could say that about every single prospect ever.  At some point you have to take a risk and play a prospect if you want to cash in on the potential surplus they can provide.  PCA has a high floor.  Even if he doesn't hit that great he's young, fast, and athletic and is going to cover a ton of ground in CF and probably take home some gold gloves.
