How many times has Ross brought in a new reliever only to have them give up a game changing bomb within the first couple of batters?

I'm not saying bringing Leiter Jr in was a good or bad thing, just that it seems to happen a decent amount of times.

I'm going to say twice.  But I can only remember the past week.

Now that we played for 1 run lets see that Cubs lockdown pen hold the Rays offense from scoring the next 2 innings.  If they do manage to give up the lead we got the Mastro and Barnhart leading off the next inning for more offense.  Fool proof plan

Hey now, if we stack their batting averages on top of each other, they look just like a real boy.

And the Cubs are losing

God forbid a Cubs reliever remain reliable for longer than 10 seconds

Only Alzolay, who is now pitching while trailing after having thrown 2 innings yesterday. He'll be burnt out soon.

Super happy we played for 1 run in the 7th

They sacrificed Tauchman(career 30% K% against LHP) against a crossfire LHRP, especially with Mancini getting thrown out it didn't make a difference.

Alzolay threw 20 pitches yesterday, and 1 pitch in the 8 days prior to that

Still, there's just so little upside playing for one run in the seventh inning on a team with a leaky bullpen.

That's great and all, but if you're going to use him today while trailing by 1, why not use him while you still have the lead?  I'm not a fan of back to back days after a multi-inning appearance, but especially not when the team is losing.

Against an elite offense, albeit one the Cubs had mostly handled for 2.5 games
