What is the possible justification for Mancini playing 1B over Hosmer when they are both in the lineup?  Hosmer is the better defender.  I wonder if they want the flexibility of pinch hitting for Hosmer without having to move guys around defensively?

Saw someone mention (maybe one of the BN guys?) that maybe it's to keep Mancini (relatively) sharp on defense for when Hosmer is inevitably cut loose and Mervis comes up.  I guess the thinking is that maybe Mervis won't play as frequently as Hosmer has been?  idk...
