This may be a bit hot-takey, but if Horton isn't in our top 3 pitching prospects (4 if you include Wesneski) we should have drafted someone else.

I don’t think it’s too hot-takey (especially considering there were so many other options for that pick) but I do think it might be a bit too early to take these rankings too seriously, especially since Horton is intentionally being stretched out slowly due to a likely innings cap and hasn’t had a chance to show much in Arizona yet.

My only critique is that it feels arbitrary. Callis saw Horton this spring, said he looked great, and was a top 100 guy for him. Prospects Live had Horton on their Top 100. If Hodge, Wicks, and Brown (according to Phil) are looking even better, that's good, no?

The 2022 draft merits a lot of scrutiny. They took big swings and I'd have been fine going elsewhere at 7 (Neto, Collier), but if Horton does what he should and is still down in the pecking order I feel great about that.

Watch out for Brandon Birdsell, btw.

In my experience Arizona Phil is prone to these types of proclamations that are overly weighted to what he's seen live in Mesa.  Sometimes they pay off (he was the first person anywhere to think Josh Donaldson had elite MLB power) but I tend to not put a lot of stock into them.

Which also brings out the fact that AZPhil, for all the awesomeness that he provides, is not a scout.

José Rijo had 5!? Sounds like only Venters made it back to the bigs after his 3rd.

It's even worse than that. A lot of those guys with 3+ TJs didn't really have that many TJs. For a while there, there were other, similar operations that were being lumped in as TJs. I'm pretty sure that was the case with Isringhausen, Rijo, and at least one of Fox/Williamson. It's been a while since I looked it up.

But yeah, Venters is the only guy with anything resembling any real success after 3 actual TJs. And that really consists of one solid season in relief.

Did we know that whatever is wrong with Devers is 60 Day IL worthy?

Honestly though depending on what his injury is not the worst thing in the world.  What he needs most is to get jacked so he can throw harder, in terms of like pitch ability and stuff he's way ahead of the curve already.

IIRC McDaniel gave him a HM in the system this offseason too

He gave him a 40 FV! Same as Howard, Made, Paciolla and Derniche Valdez. Good company.
