Seems like a solid hire but the Blackhawks are so so far away from anything resembling competency that its hard to care, especially because I'm already sick of following the Cubs and Bears rebuilds.

I hate the idea of trading Debrincat, but if they get a high 1st this year plus another 1st, that would go a long way to accelerating the rebuild.

Ottawa picks 7th tonight, right after where the Blackhawks would be picking if they didn’t make the horribly timed trade for Seth Jones.

 

If it’s not much more than that pick, would be terrible.

I get why they were exploring the options, but with that return I don’t get why you go forward with it. Underwhelmed is an understatement. It doesn’t come close to matching value. Most like option is they don’t get the best guy in the draft next year and they’ll be terrible again. They’ll be desperately looking for a guy like Debrincat in two years.

 

They clearly valued getting rid of him over getting value for him, and forced a trade right after telling the media the last thing they want to do is force something.
