Guys it's just cuz George wants to deduct the miles for business travel. He swooped by and picked up groceries on the way and the IRS will never know he mixed personal travel with business travel.

I would think a gopher person or a black car would pick Poles up, not the person who is essentially the owner of the team. I wonder if this is an overture to make Ryan feel like he's their guy.

 

 

I think its just the way McCaskey runs the entire team, its a family business so he personally picks Poles up. It can be seen as rubish, but honestly I really dont mind Geo doing it. Welcome to Chicago, Ryan

I have a hard time imagining he's picked up each one of these guys, considering some were same day. I assumed a lot of these were zoom interviews, at least for the first round, and that in person things were for the 2nd round.

 

Yeah, all 1st round interviews were via Zoom. 2nd round in person. Is Poles the first round 2? IDK if Eberflus went his 2nd time or not, or if they are waiting to do in person until they get a GM.

I wanted someone more analytics-y since we (presumably) still have Kelly in the fold. That said Poles seemed like one of the best scout-y GM options so I'm still happy.

I love Caldwell as an OC, I'm skeptical as all hell with him as HC. But I like the GM hire and do think Caldwell would be good for Fields development. Maybe not the best, but at least positive.

Right it sounds exactly what they are trying to do here, per DBB's tweet. You'd think they'd learn from their mistakes but I guess that's why the Bears are a dumpster fire. I also like Poles as the GM hire but unless he's already been on board with Caldwell then I question his decision making if he goes along with this

My interpretation is George has been 100% honest and transparent about this stuff. I really don't think a hot candidate would agree to a GM job if it came with the caveat that he had to hire an elder statesmen as HC. I think it's entirely possible that Poles likes Caldwell, and don't believe George is forcing him, or any other coach, on him.

Yeah I have a hard time buying that he is going to take a GM job where's he's being forced to hire a coach when it seems he most likely would have the opportunity to take a different GM job tomorrow.

It's not really about qualifications with the guy, he's been out of the league for years. That's the issue. Away from the game, health issues and age. It seems predestined to be a 3 year gig and move on, one way or another. I think that works just fine as an OC installing his offensive infrastructure and setting up his assistants to battle for the OC gig in 2025, but I don't think that is a good way to treat the HC position.

I'm certain this is mainly speculation however, read Polian was making a big push for Brown as GM, Caldwell as HC whereas, Poles is outside of Polian' sphere. If so, I like it, apparently Poles is coming with the authority to find and hire the next HC as well, no internally preferred candidate to be pushed upon him ala Pace/Fox. Sounds good to me.

Brad is a analytics guy, so if he's impressed with Poles I think theres hope in that dept.

 

Really, really bright guy. He kind of blew me away with some of the conversations we had. I believe he’s a former player but was picking our brain about analytics and picking our brain about all sorts of different things. Just a guy that I think would want to have many smart voices in the room and just learn in any capacity he can. I think he’s a relatable guy, a nice guy that would get along with anyone. A guy that I think would be able to be a leader of a building and be productive with everyone around him.
