People on Twitter are saying leftwich had a great interview with the Bears but I can’t find any sort of sourced report

DBB had an incredibly vague tweet.

Then saw this, but yea failed to see anyone actually sau that

Khan and Leftwich please. Who knows at this point what's going to happen.

Hhm Khan and Leftwich do have a Pittsburgh connection.

I'm nervous about Leftwichs short coaching career but to some extent his playing career must make up for that.

I liked this guy's coach previews. Heres Leftwich's

https://ontapsportsnet.com/2021/12/03/byron-leftwich-future-head-coach-nfl-buccaneers-offense/

He has a "coach tree" chart. And yea, Leftwich would really need to extend outside if his immediate network. Nagy really had the same problem and kinda was saved by being able to keep Fangio and his staff.

Leftwich would definitely be a favorite of mine, I just assumed that the Jags or another team would nab him so I haven’t seriously thought about the possibility.

The amount of solid DCs available is amazing.

Upcoming interviews

Also from Vikings “insider”

Interesting. Theres been growing speculation of the Bears trying to double dip with a Khan type above a personnel focused AGM. But Minnesotas offer would beat that.

I'd take a Khan-Brown pairing if possible over just Poles.

But really good they are keeping in the game and perhaps full control of Bears > full control of Minny which is a promising sign as I wasn't totally sure was the case. Probably highly dependent on one's opinion of Fields.

At this point, I'm for Khan and a progressive style of management where he is less of a scout and more of a Theo type and overhaul the analytical and scouting sides of the Bears while delegating those roles as they develop.

Rumors have Ted retiring in the next few years and maybe Khan can progress into that role, while modernizing the team, and grooming Champ Kelly into a future GM role.

I'm not sure I see Khan as a guy to directly grow into the Phillips role. It would basically be the Roseman/Loomis role and Philly and New Orleans still have business Presidents separate from Football Ops.

But yea that keeps the setup like (supposedly) now where the football ops won't report through the Business Pres but to ownership directly.

Yeah this is the ideal situation for me as well. I would say Khan and another guy they've interviewed, but I don't wanna lose Champ Kelly if that's the case.

Not that McCaskey should be basing the next Bears' HC on one or two games but, if yesterday' Buffalo - KC game doesn't scream offense is the way. Then nothing will, you had Buffalo' league leading defense, headed by Lesile Frazier, get sliced, diced, chewed up and otherwise abused, there wasn't a damn thing they could do to stop KC from scoring. Frazier would be an a colossal mistake as the next Bears HC, its so obviously wrong and this is what scares me. Because if there's one thing the Bears do well its make the wrong decisions almost always. Although firing Pace did give me some hope but, Frazier as a possibility is still there, why can't the Giants, Jags or Dolphins just go ahead and hire him so McCaskey can't. Edited by gflore34

I'm confused about how Frazier would or would not be a finalist at this point, without a GM. Are they culling the list and then giving the GM the choice among 5 guys, or are they telling the GM, hire who you want but not this guy? Or have they polled the potential GMs and know that none of them have an interest in hiring Frazier?

I mean, there's a ton we don't know about what conversations are being had as they interview both HC and GM candidates at the same time. Some HCs are going to be more empowered and some aren't. Some GMs are probably suggesting some HCs and/or saying which ones they want to work with or have had conversations with.

Obviously, there's at least one guy with a 2nd interview lined up. We know that much. And there's no official GM yet.

I think the latter. It's one reason that I like the wide net approach. You can almost crowdsource HC candidates by what the GM candidates say and vice versa for the GM. That's not a literal statement, but the Bears could be making a simple Venn diagram of who everyone likes and who everyone is concerned about.

The other thing is you get to hear 10 GM candidates tell you what is wrong with your team and how to fix it. There must be some level of common answers that are irrefutable even to non-football guys like George.

My guess is they've said to potential GMs "if you want Frazier, go somewhere else"

Maybe Frazier us pulling his name, doesn't want to be a HC

Yea I imagine at this point they've gotten through almost all their GM interviews and they haven't gotten enough positive feedback of Frazier as an option.

Breer wrote an article about the Beads having multiple HC they are narrowing in on, and Frazier is one of them https://www.si.com/nfl/2022/01/24/mmqb-divisional-round-mcvay-stafford-mahomes-burrow

So there's a lot of talk at this point.

Trying to remain patient. I feel like GM search goes out to Thursday or Friday still.

Mainly, for me, regardless of the GM aspect it shouts wrongheadedness, I'm probably being irrational. However, I could totally see George McCaskey getting up there introducing Frazier as the next HC babbling about "Bear" football - defense, TOP run the ball 40 times a game completely under utilizing or failing to develop Justin Fields. You know the whole opposite approach thing - went an offensive slant with Nagy that didn't work so, try going the other way. Never mind that Nagy was just a shitty X's and O's coach, all that McCaskey probably got from it was the offensive slant did not work out.
