I kinda need Hendricks to give some indication he stopped trying after the deadline. Still gets plenty of leeway, but this run is going to push his total season numbers back to ‘very concerning’.

Hendricks is probably a guy that needs to spend more time studying opposing hitters and aligning his mechanics to be successful so yeah the 6.49 ERA since the deadline is a little alarming though he’s mixed as many good performances as bad performances

Jesus Christ. You have to look to move Hendricks while you can at this point, right? It’s looking more and more like Wisdom (and Contreras if ever healthy again) are the only redeemable pieces of this roster. Maybe Ortega & Schwindel for bench rolls. Depressing.

I think that’s extreme. Even at this years performance Hendricks is a solid 5th starter who has had some elite starts this year, and this is the outlier season (hopefully)

He is definitely still a solid mid-rotation starter, but perhaps this was a necessary wake up call that he isn't the ace that the Cubs can build a staff around.

The concern that I have is whether he is a guy that can sustain performance as he ages. You can argue that he doesn't rely on velocity, but everyone needs velocity to a point. Can Hendricks lose a few MPH off his fastball and still be a viable pitcher?

Kyle's definitely been worse this year, but the dongs are probably noise and overstate how much he's gotten worse by. Probably.

That said you can't just assume his FIP beating powers will last forever. Matt Cain was also a guy who ran good peripherals and elite ERAs long enough that you could definitively say it was skill and not just luck. Then in 2013 his peripherals slipped a smidge and his ERA slipped a horsefeathers load, and it wasn't accompanied by a velocity dip or other factor that would easily explain what happened.

he has fully embraced the tank.
